67 stepside found in weeds

Post by fonfixer »

i found a 67 step side while i was at work the other day. the hood was in the bed, missing a tire and one tire rotten away. I talked to the lady that lived there found out it was a one owner truck! the cab is rusted out but i want the bed, tranny, steering column, driver door and odds and ends. thinking of offering $300 and see where that goes. wish me luck.

You may get it for $300.00. She could get $500.00 from the scrap yard, but she would have to deliver it. I tried for 10 years once to buy an old truck in the weeds. The lady said it was her deceased husbands truck & he would turn over in his grave if she sold it. :)

About 30 years ago, I bought a Bugeye Sprite that had been sitting in the weeds. The PO had dropped a Mazda engine and tranny in it, then parked it. I think I paid $100 for it, then sold the engine/tranny for $150. The rest of the car sat in MY weeds, until I sold it to the next guy. Makes me wonder if it ever got back on the road again ...

I'm sure most of you have enough experience to not need any advice, but having been down this road more than a few times, I've got a nickel's-worth of free advice since I've run into the sort that believes they're sitting on a rusty gold-mine: "I saw one of these go on Barrett-Jackson for a quarter-million just last week," and the "Just get it out of my yard," and everything in between. For me the key is to let them know that you aren't trying to insult them, but you don't have a lot of money to offer, and soothe their sentimental attachment by reassuring them that their 'Good Ole' Bessy' will be appreciated and put to good use. Good luck with your purchase, and keep the forums posted!

I called the fellow about the truck and offered him $300. I didn't get a big fat "No". He wants to think about it a couple days. Cross ur fingers, toes, and eyes.

Ok. After several weeks of waiting, the guy finally came to the realization that he'll never do anything with the truck. I was able to get it from him for $400. Took the afternoon off from work to go home and get the trailer and tires. I got round tires on it, pulled the driveshaft from the rear end, but the brakes are locked up. I yanked it a couple of times and one wheel broke free. I tried to drag it onto the trailer but found I was bending the top rail on the trailer. It was getting late so I had to give up for now. The truck is mine, just have to get it home now.

Congrats on getting it! Some people never realize that it's time to let go and they let it rot until the next of kin gets it and scraps it out.

Try pulling it backwards 1st. Sometimes frozen brakes will let go backwards.

I've gotten frozen brake drums lose before, its no fun. Ya'll think if I take the wheel cylinder a lose and push it in the brake shoes will come off the drum?

Just hook somewhere that doesn't bend and pull it onto the trailer. I ripped a '69 Torino in half pulling it up on a roll back once, subframe rusted out by the steering box.
