Pick Your Part 50% off sale day update 07JUL13

Post by mnkeeking »

PYP was a bust during this weekend's sale. Two '67 F250s were all I could find, both pretty well smashed up. I did score two '67 dash bezels with instruments and I unplugged both without cutting any wires. I paid $65 for one complete '67 dash bezel with instrument cluster about a year ago off ebay. Now I feel really dumb for buying off ebay. Anyway, pictures below. I like the clean look of the '67 bezel and the fact that it's steel. I have access to a blast cabinet on base and will blast them clean. After I got took on powder coating my valve covers, oil pan and timing cover I started doing my own coating. I have a limited supply of powders, but I have chrome, black chrome, white, flat black, gloss black, green and red. I am still learning, but if you don't mind that I can coat anything metal that will fit in a toaster oven. Still need to wire up a 220 extension cord for the electric oven I got so I can coat larger stuff. I painted the first bezel, but I think I may try coating one of the other ones I got today.

If anyone needs or wants one of these steel '67 bezels, drop me a pm. They will fit '67-'72 trucks. I also installed LED bulbs (not really, LEDs are not bulbs but you get it) in my dash. They are not really bright, and I didn't upgrade my electric system yet so they don't dim, but they really look nice when it gets fully dark. I obviously put in green for the turn signals and a blue for the high beam indicator. I put in some red ones for general lighting, but they looked terrible. The white ones do a good job.

Real reason I went to PYP was to find parts for my son's '85 Honda Accord. Reason I need parts for my son's car is Sweety (name of my '68 F100) accidentally dropped into reverse the other day once I got her running after the motor swap and casually motored in reverse into my son's car and smashed up his hood and the damn valance just under it, both of which I found at the yard today. I stood at the front door and watched Sweety attack the Honda. Sometimes being an amputee sucks. I can't run, so couldn't even chase Sweety down. I had the tires blocked, but her new motor is so strong she just jumped right over the blocks. Oh, Sweety definitely beat the hell outta that Honda and only sustained a small dent in the tailgate. At 70 on the freeway I have no illusions about my chances in Sweety if I crack up, but at 3-5 MPH American iron, even 45 years old, is still the toughest kid on the block. SO I had to make it right for my son, and I scored a complete grille, hood and valance, and turn signal clusters for his car. Spent $48 on the parts. Gonna strip and paint them to match his car this week.

Lastly, I found an animal rescue organization that I have to share with you. Check out the rescue videos at hopeforpaws.org. The guy is amazing. I will warn you, however, to be prepared to be seriously angry at the people who abuse animals (like you're not already,) and you may shed a tear, but all of the stories have a good ending. I am not affiliated with any of the rescue organizations, but I have to give credit where it's due. You can't BS a dog. Generally you get bitten if you try. Eldad couldn't possibly do what he does if he were trying to BS anyone, most especially any of the animals he rescues. Also, if anyone is buying any of the BS about particular breeds of dogs, watch Eldad intentionally back at least three different, sick, injured, hungry "pit bulls" into a corner. You want to watch Nala, Troy, and Karma being rescued to see how it works out.

Take care,
Joe
