i'm selling the monte :(

Post by hedz »

i wanted to do so much to this car. the job market and amount of income i have been able to generate has been pathetic despite the fact I have been working my butt off for quite some time. I just can't keep the ship together and realize my car goals. The transmission just went out on the monte carlo as should be expected on the metric 200. It's been sitting there for a month. I need a car that gets better mpg. The truck is killing me and i'm feeling every trip to the gas pump like a swift kick in the nuts. My very first car I ever had was a 78 monte carlo i drove for quite some time and I got this 79 to fill that gap that was made empty when i was forced to sell the 78. And despite the fact that my 79 is a even better representation in every way i could ever hope in a monte, I have to let it go. I could never sell my 72 ford truck. My grandpa bought it brand new in 72. It's staying in the family forever. So now i'm faced with this compromise and the fact that if i don't get something different in this market I'm going to be out of house and home. I just threw it up on craigslist and it's probably going to wind up under someones ownership that is going to ruin every original aspect of this car that makes it so unique since it was special ordered with it's options. This is depressing. I know many of you have parted with your treasured vehicles before so this isn't anything new. It's just a real hard thing for me to swallow. I feel like i'm burying a childhood friend or something - i know that sounds weird. You may think, it's just a monte carlo, but hey it has symbolism for me. I really hope one day I can afford to find another gbody monte carlo in the 78 to 79 range that will fill this loss and bring back all the great memories of my first ride. :(

i'm going to try to obtain a 80 or 81 VW rabbit diesel truck for the good mpg and ability to haul crap.

When I was a junior in high school, back in 79, we had two "insurance totaled" vehicles that had been in a flood that we used as guinea pigs in our auto mechanics class. One was a 79 Monte Carlo. It was a nice car.

About 4 years ago I picked up a Subaru Brat for $700 from a guy close to work. The floor boards and rocker panels were shot but I absolutely loved that car. Funnest thing to drive I've ever sat in. Gave it to one of my wife's friends husband who was down on his luck. Within a month he got drunk and wrecked it. I've regretted it ever since. Hate to see you have to give her up but you gotta do what you gotta do.

I hate G-bodies.

I know you're attached and want someone to tell a comforting story, but those cars represent the worst automotive engineering in history being thrust down america's throat.

A 72 Ford truck is, in all unbiased reality, 1000 times more vehicle than that thing.

In my teenage years I sent a lot of those cars to the shredder. We bought them and had our own demo derby's. welded the rears, jacked them up and kinked the shocks over. Good times. Nothing like jamming a slipping 700R4 forward-reverse with a rod knocking 305 at 5500.

The best use for that car is going through a mature christmas tree field at 70 MPH. Most fun you can have with your clothes on.

:lolprev: Agreed.

No offence to the OP, I hope to think that your attachment to this car is not the car itself, but memories the car was involved in...
