Point me in the right direction

Post by Mancar1 »

Having a hard time finding aluminum valve covers that r stock size for my 390 in the 68. If I go tall I afigure I may have problems with brackets, ect. I found black but I want the bright. Figured since the headers, intake, carb, air cleaner is all gonna be shinny why not the vlv covers. Input/advice is welcome...may not take it, but it is welcomed.

Check these guys out. I have their short finned black crinkle finish valve covers. Ordered them on Ebay. Only issue I had is the breather holes are reversed front to back. the driver's side is to the rear, and the passenger side is forward. This interfered with my power brake booster. You can see my solution in the last pic. My PCV breather has a part that screws onto the base there, but it hit the brake booster. Fortunately I was able to hook the hose directly to the PCV after removing the top.

I think I like yours more than mine. The breather holes are in the right spot and they have the tabs for attaching wire separators.

mrollings53, I like those Ansen's from the website you posted, and actually like the black finned tall versions. You said you got yours on eBay, but do you know where else they might sell those? I have been looking around and cant seem to find them, even on eBay. I might call them and see what they have to say. They are only about 40 miles from me, so maybe I will drive down there if they will sell me a pair directly. Who knows!

Thanks for the link...

You need to have the small double diaphragm brake booster for those to work in your truck

Good to know. My truck has a 460 though and is already built. I am looking for some for the 390 in my Fairlane. Already checked and I appear to have room to run the taller valve covers.
