highboys are basically all 67-mid 77 f250 4x4's . they changed things around in 77 to lower them abit. They also went from fe's and divorced t-cases to m motors and too a 3" wide rear leaf instead of a 2 1/2" wide one.
are they rare? well they're 40+ yrs old.
- still got my first first car 20+yrs later : 69 f100 sorta kinda pretending its a Mercury M100 w/a 70 f350 sport custom cab (factory buckets) 67 grille with 69 ranger cooneyes 68 merc box and hood, some supercool fiberglass fenders i scored way back when, 76 f150 disc brake frontend..currently running a 90 5.0HO 4bbl/c4 auto & 3.50 posi...originally a 360/c6 f100 Ranger with dealer added towpack (incl. kelsey hays trailer brake),boxside toolbox, behind the seat stowage & belly tank...only original parts left on 'er are the frame, rear end, rear springs, and rear bumper...
What is the real definition of a highboy? I had a 74 F250 4x4, what I was told was it had a factory lift which made it a highboy? I searched for the true definition years ago... and got all sorts of cray answers... Chevy guys teling me they had highboys - Ford stole the name.... blah blah blah.... Tell ya what though... wish I still had that truck!!!!!!
thx guys, ive gotten crazy awnsers too ive heard factory lifts ive heard theres no such things as a highboy ive heard that because the frame was narrower they had to lift it so things would fit under it such as tranny transfer case ect so i dont know but i like it being diffrent plus its cool when someone like "i got a 2in lift from highjacker (or something)" and im like thats nice i got a free lift from the factory its bout 4in nothing majoir haha

Highboy is just a made up term. The only definition for highboy that makes sense is that ALL 67-77.5 F-250 4x4's are highboys because all the trucks were pretty much the same.
There was no factory lift kit or "highboy package". There were different GVW packages offered, but the trucks sat about the same heights when new. The higher GVW trucks didn't sag in the front much at all while the lower GVW ones with lighter front springs tend to sit a lot lower after 40 years.
Whateverman, Highboys had the M engines in early '77 and they had 2.25" wide rear springs, not 2.5".
