You can pull the top plate in the truck. I replaced one in my '70 10 miles into the wilderness once. Pads were gone, ate the 1/2 fork and stuck it'self in 2nd gear. 100 miles to get home was not really an option stuck in 2nd gear.
I had a slight feeling that those might play a part in the problem  if im driving in 3rd an come up to a stop i pretty much need to be at a complete stop for it to go into 2nd. simlar to trying to get into granny durning a slow stop sign roll  same deal. It's coming out soon so ill have a full rebuild done on it

 Funny thing is the Grill was the biggest selling point for me when i bought the truck. the night i found it on craigslist (wasnt even looking for a truck) i found this site an learned about them not being easy to find in good shape an they dont make repops so i jumped at it the next day

Great looking Highboy. I want to go with a 4inch lift an 38's like you rock. I'm surprised you didn't go to powersteering as soon as you went to the bigger tires.

Over the past few days ive been at it pretty hard. Installed new Autometer gauges (Water/Oil) that i stole off my race car. The Kragens cheap water temp one pooped out on me. This turned into my Radiator being pulled out an sent off to a boil shop for cleaning an whatnot, along with the fan/clutch the water pump all for a nice overhaul thats been needed since i bought the truck in 11' so hopfully this friday paycheck ill place a nice little order from Summit to get to the next step. Today at work i sand blasted all the old parts ill re-use for the build an painted them all pretty again. Need to swing by the parts store an snag fluid an hoses next.

After the picture i used Easy Off Oven cleaner an pressure washed the motor the best i could. I'll try an lay some cover up paint on it later this week or the weekend before i put any new parts on the thing.

Yeah i plan on keeping it for awhile longer haha my younger brother picked up a 68' Dodge D100 a few months back so helping him work on it gave me the truck bug again. His truck is more along the lines of Hot Rod truck but its still a truck bug haha

Been a few months since i updated the thing for you all. Not to much done on the thing yet, been super busy with work, wife, kid stuff as of late but i try an squeeze some time for the ol' girl on the weekends. As you can see from the last post I pulled the Rad. out an had it tanked, repaired three small leaks an replaced the drain valve. Will i had that out i went ahead an pulled the water pump an all that good stuff. I'm going to order a new pump, fan, fan clutch, belts, hoses, blah blah. It was a good time to do a cooling system overhaul while at it

The pictures are of the nasty before an after from the easy off oven cleaner an a pressure wash, followed but a tape off what i could see then spray an pray paint job on the motor :hmm: plans on pulling the motor at some point an doing it up right are later. So for now its just for that "what you can see appeal"

Looking good! It's funny, I've done the same thing for gauges. My 66' dosen't have to many gauges left.
