Suffering from "bump" withdrawal

Been a tough few weeks what with the weather and kids having financial issues and long hours at work (physical inventory and it's aftermath), blah, blah, blah. Had to replace my HVAC unit in November and that wiped me out. Haven't touched a bump part in 3 weeks and it's getting to me. I've got one of my mustang bucket seats half torn down to the frame and there they sit. Started by just wanting to peel back the upholstery, wire brush the seat track mounting surface, and spray some paint on it. Of course, an hour later, I had the seat disassembled and the bottom stripped to the wire frame Then it got real cold, and I wussed out, and haven't done anything since. I've had to go down to the basement a couple of times since then and when I do, I leave feeling like an recovering alcoholic having to walk past a bar. Anyway, just wanted to vent a little. Anybody else stalled out and suffering bump withdrawal like me?

then theres my situation where all the things i wanted to get done are done..but i cant drive it. its ah winter thing. starting it would be ah good feeling but just dont like to do it when its this cold..

I hear ya! I only have a gravel driveway to work on my vehicles and it has been way too cold. The most I have done to the bump is to clean and paint a couple of brackets. If I was single, my house would look like Tom Cruise's character in War of the Worlds.

I'm feeling everyone's pain... Started a new job bought 4months ago. Work 10-12 hours a day. When I get home I'm too tired to go play. Been waiting on a buddy who's owed me some body work for over 5 years now. He's had my cab for over 9months and it's still not ready!!! I have a chassis, motor & trans ready to go. Really starting 2 lose motivation...

A couple of Fridays ago, I got off work a little early so I swung by my local wrecking yard, in search of a (dry type) air cleaner assembly for the 240 in my truck. --didn't find one. While I was there though, I spotted about a '96-'98 5.0L Explorer. The grille was off it and I noticed the metal fan blade on the 5.0L engine had a lot of blades --9 of them!

I had been kicking around the idea of installing a fan clutch and a factory 7-blade fan to replace my clutchless stock 4-blade if I could have found a 7-blade locally but, after seeing the 9-blade this seemed like a better possibility. I didn't have the clutch fan wrenches to remove the fan from the wrecking yard Explorer (has the large nut that threads onto the water pump), but decided I would check for a 9-blade Explorer fan online after I got back home from the wrecking yard. I started searching online and found them ranging in price from $65.00-$107.00. After a check at ebay, I found one for $38.50 brand new with free shipping. I wasn't sure if the bolt hole spacing was correct but I took a chance and ordered it.

The next morning (Saturday) I went to O'Reilly's and bought a fan clutch designed for a 1979 Ford pickup with a 300. A few days later the 9-blade fan arrived. I took it out of the box and set it onto the clutch and saw the holes were spread a little further out on the fan than the holes on the clutch. No problem, just slot the holes a little on the fan to make it line up. I went to hold the clutch/fan up to the front of the truck when it was obvious I had over looked one detail --the 5.0L Explorer (like a 5.0L Mustang) has a reverse rotation water pump. This means the fan blades are angled backwards from what I need and would be blowing the air back towards the radiator. Oh well. At the time I was ordering it, I figured if the 9-blade fan didn't work out, it probably wasn't the first time I had wasted nearly $40.00 and probably on something dumber.

The upside is I did locate a factory Ford 7-blade fan on ebay for $15.00. It should be here sometime next week.

I feel ya Sarge. It's been picking at me to. Have painted a few parts to have ready for spring. Also been buying up a few parts. Hope to be firing up the rebuilt 360 this spring. Sort of nervous about that part. I know my son will be there when i start it up and if i don't hear him say: WHAT'S THAT NOISE DAD, i know the engine is OK.

Haven't had the ol girl on the road since Oct of 2010. Haven't even started it in over a year. Kinda miss that old truck.

ADD is a good thing some days. I work on something until I get burnt out, then move on to another project. Currently my F-350 is waiting patiently. I have a '58 Massey Ferguson 50 that's getting functionally restored and a loader installed. A month or so ago a neighbor gave me a '59 Simplicity Wonderboy 700 with a snow blade on that I'm resealing the transmission in this week and of course I have the aluminum hard top that I've been building for my dad's '83 Chris Craft 280.

The truck is not deteriorating and I need to get it done this summer as my ranchero is falling apart. The MF-50 is going to help get the truck done once the loader is installed. I got tired of the simplicity piddling on the floor where ever it was parked.

Its been like that here for me too up till this weekend. It hit 45 this afternoon and the driveway had pretty well thawed off so i said what the heck and took my truck for a spin. It felt really good after driving a 4 cylinder escape for the past few months, to rev it up and go through the gears. Looking forward to spring

Just for all of U that can not drive your Bumps at this time......I am going to cruise around in the 68 today.
