Windshield sun visors 68?

Post by Copper67440 »

Does anybody know where you could get the old style windshield visors for our old bumps? I looked online and all I could find was the newer style Fiberglas. I like the look. I had one on a 69 I had years ago.

I know this because I was on the hunt for one for about 2 years before I decided to change my plans. But the only one that is made today is the FUGLY fiberglass one that you have obviously already found. In 2 years of looking, I was only able to find one candidate and it was not quite what I was looking for and would have needed a bit of modification to fit, so I passed on it. But your only hope at this point to find one is Craigslist, eBay, and other sites like that. Also, you might post that you are looking for one on various PARTS WANTED sections of different websites. They do not make them anymore and they are very hard to come by. And then when you do locate one, you are going to have to pay a bit for shipping and hope that the person who has it is willing to work with you to get it shipped to you.

Who knows, maybe you will be lucky and find one close to home. But based on my experience, it is a needle in a haystack. Good luck!

If I'm not mistaken, the fibreglass visors are just blanks. When I restored my 1964 International 1100A 2wd, visors are not available practically at any price, so I built my own. I did have one visor that I traced onto some firm fibreboard, riveted it onto the hinge then took it to an upholstery shop and they did and incredible job, and any color I wanted. I painted the truck Viper red and dark midnite Ford blue on the fenders, it is a stepside model. The interior is grey on dark grey black floor mat. 345, T19 4 speed and it hauls a$$! :D

He is talking about the large metal visor that you used to be able to get that would go outside of your truck above your windshield. Kind of like the bill of a hat, but would come off the roofline and stick out over the windshield about 6 inches or so...

Ooops! I actually did not know that product even existed for our trucks. As a matter of fact, I have never seen a windshield visor around here on anything newer than 1957 Fords or Mercurys. But a lot of the visors were used on the GM model trucks between 1947 to 1959 and there are still quite a few of those around even in the junk yards. I guess those folks just don't know what they have. I hope your search for the visor ends in success.

Man I'd love to see a picture. I don't think I've ever seen anything other than the fiberglass "Lund" kind.

I'm pretty sure I don't have any pictures of the 69 I had. It was a short bed custom with a 460 in it. Black. Now that I think about it it had chrome bed rails I liked too.

A guy I asked said a friend has one on a parts truck but won't sell it for anything.
