Sell or not to sell, that is the question

I have 1970 F100 that I have been restoring over past several years and reached point where its impractical to keep going. Was never a financial good idea to dump bunch of money in an old truck but it has been interesting and fun. But now I am stuck between selling and upgrading to newer truck, (like 2000-2010 F150) or keeping and just adding to restoration when I have money to do so. Even with all the money I have in it, I know I would not get much of it back. So why bother?

Take a look at the build thread here and let me know what you think its worth or what I might be able to sell for, and also thoughts on ebay vs. craigslist vs. some other method of selling? You-all have guided me through out the rebuild so why not guide me on deciding to sell or not.

I'd rather put my money towards parts (and fun+personal satisfaction) if and when I have to ......versus living with a truck payment EVERY FRICKIN' MONTH and the high insurance rate.

I am not opposed to a newer cars and trucks per se. A super-dependable family hauler or efficient commuter is fine and makes sense. ...but they (and you!) just become another lemming on the road. What fun is that?

"Practical" isn't included in my gearhead dictionary.

Most of us on these type forums don't think of it as a moneymaker, in fact, we know we will not recuperate what we have in them. It's more of an appreciation of good machinery.

Our addiction here is more of a hobby and not a money making project. You never get back what you put into it unless you keep the truck for a long time, like my 54 F100. Part of the joy of owning an old truck is lack of a car payment, uniqueness, notoriety, and the ability to work on your truck without hooking it up to a computer.

To sell or keep is up to you, but if you thought you would make money on this you you were mistaken.

My 68 is a fun project that I have put over $12,000 into and I have a ways to go. I could sell it and get about a 1/3 or less of that amount. I also have a 2010 vehicle that I may trade in on a 2014. You do what you want, sell or keep. Been there with these old trucks more than a few times in my life. I end up selling and moving to another. What you get for them is a lot less than you put in, but I always consider the enjoyment the hobby brings me.
Car payment or not is a personal decision, I do not judge others I leave that up to God.

HI all,

thanks for feedback. I am well aware that this was not a money making operation....went in with that idea in clear sight. Just struggling with letting go of some thing with blood, sweat and tears...not just money..... but it just cannot provide the utility I need, at least not utility I want I suppose. Any thoughts on how much I should ask for it or where I should try to sell it?
