Am I crazy?
Just thinking about going to the mustang 50th anniversary event in Charlotte in April. We're in Atlanta and the drive is about 350 miles. We could drive our '68 mustang GT/CS or I've even thought about the idea of trailering the GT/CS. How crazy would I be to use the Bump to pull the '68? We don't drive either much at all so would want to be sure that both are roadworthy. If the Bump is in good running condition would it pull the mustang fairly easily? Am I crazy to consider it? Would be fun to trailer our '68 with our '68.

It seems to me that you are not sure, if the truck is in good condition, it should not be a problem. If it were me I would use a trailer with brakes so that you truck would not be doing all the stopping work. Other than that, if the truck is mechanically sound I don't see a problem. That being said, you know your truck better than anyone, use your own judgment. What ever you decide, have a good time.

Thanks. Actually the truck is in great overall condition. It came with the heavy duty suspension. Has 45k original miles and runs well. Just wasn't sure if I might be asking too much of the old bump. Oh, one other thing...it has vintage style bias ply tires on it. Good suggestion on the trailer brakes.

As a non-educated, non-practicing, self-appointed internet psychiatrist and shyster lawyer I would have to say, yes, you are crazy.
Anyway, as to towing with your truck:
I'd ditch the bias ply tires. And make sure the tires you get are LTs (light truck), and not passenger rated, (IE P235-15), I see too many pickups with underrated tires on them.
What motor do you have? The FEs and 300's are good towing engines, 302s don't like to tow so much. It can do it, but you have to take it easy.
Do you have front disc brakes? If drum you'd really have to take it easy on any grades. Anyone that knows me knows I don't hate on drum brakes, but the drums used on the F100s were really small. F250s and F350s no sweat with their drums, but it's not hard to overheat the small drums on an F100.

Re: Am I crazy?
The engine is a 360 with manual on the floor. I've been thinking about dumping the bias ply tires and I guess this spring is the right time. The brakes are drum. Gonna have to give this some more thought before I decide to tow. Might be fun though.

Re: Am I crazy?
Okay, you have a good towing combo with the 360 and manual transmission, you'll be able to let your engine & transmission assist in slowing down thereby taking load/stress off of your brakes. Drive conservatively and you'll be fine.
Are there any major grades on the route you'll be taking?
