Numbers Matching
Ok I know this has been discussed before but I learned today federal mandate required the VIN be stamped on the block starting in 1968 for at least cars. I can not find information on when it was required for trucks. Anybody know when it started on trucks? I guess there is such a thing as a numbers matching Ford.

Re: Numbers Matching
as far as our trucks go, this is my understanding. The door tag, and frame stampings, one on the front left, one about halfway back on the top of the right frame rail all need to match. Technicaly, removing the door tag is "altering " the VIN. This is frowned upon by the local, state & feds. Rusted doors, crashes & the fact these trucks are approaching 50 years old might give you some leeway. I'm keeping the d/s door on my 68 & repairing it, just to keep the tag. I have photos of the S/N on the frame, now covered in many layers of epoxy & paint, just in case.
