option packages

Post by shortbedCUSTOM »

Can someone point me towards some information about the differences between the Ranger, Custom, and Sport Custom options? I'm assuming that they are option packages.

Is there a designator in VIN for the Ranger package?

To my knowledge, the Ranger option package designation is not detailed in the VIN number or the door tag.

What year are we talking about? The complete Ranger package also included wood grain instrument cluster, wood grain door panels and, depending on the year I think, wide upper body molding, the Ranger badges on the bed and glove box. If someone took another trim package and converted it to Ranger, they went to an awful lot of effort and expense. Not impossible, but doubtful.

They are the easiest to fake so you really need to remove the trim and emblems and see how the holes were formed in the sheet metal. Of course, your truck's lighting and reflector scheme should also reflect it's year. Example of a '72 sport custom bed on your truck would have the '72 side markers vs. the reflectors on the '69.

It's fun to do the detective work to see if you can figure out what your truck originally had and it's fun to add modifications well enough so they appear factory.

The Marti report will tell you exactly what your truck was ordered with. You would probably want the $40 report as you get the most info that way.. http://www.martiauto.com/reports2.cfm
