WOW, my favorite truck with the perfect period correct engine. But at around 70K for the engine, a little out of budget for me.

Well, that's a surprise, the last one I saw was a new in the crate Holman moody and the asking price was 70K. But what's 30k either way. Isn't someone building aftermarket ones based on a 460 block?

Not if they want to call it a "cammer."

That was a Original Holman moody 427 from back in the day with Original ford block and heads etc. the other two that I posted are all new after market block, heads etc.mw2158 wrote:Well, that's a surprise, the last one I saw was a new in the crate Holman moody and the asking price was 70K. Fbomb, THANK YOU so much for posting this. This truck is in my home town where I live. I am going to have to do some searching to find this truck and DROOL all over it. That thing is AWESOME.

The ford f series should have come stock with that motor.

Jon Kaase makes the heads that bolt on a normal 460 block to make it a Boss 429 pricey but worth it. Big power especially if you bump up the cubic inches. The 427 SOHC engines you can now buy all the parts after market. Technically they will bolt on any FE block but likely need the 427 bore to clear the big valves and you have to run an external oil return line. I'm pretty sure if you are thrifty you can put together an iron block 427 SOHC engine for under $20,000 all brand new parts. I could be wrong though.

your not going to build a 427 cammer for under 20,000 !! it would be nice but not going to happen ... just the fully dressed heads( with cams, rockers, valves, covers) will be $10,000 to $12,000, the short block from $10,000 to $14,000, and still you have all the other parts like carbs, intake manifold, dis, wires front cover, headers ,starter, etc like an other $5,000 give or take !!IsertMotorCompany wrote: Jon Kaase makes the heads that bolt on a normal 460 block to make it a Boss 429 pricey but worth it. I think theres some heads out there you can get $5000, Coons I believe, thats what Hot Rod used in an article awhile ago, they had $21000 into their engine but they had some extras like fuel injection, aluminum block etc. They probably left some stuff out but if you went with iron block, carbs, etc I think you could have all the pieces machined and ready to assemble for $20,000 if you were thrifty.
