Value of true Survivor

Post by Forsche »

Just curious because I have no plan to sell but wondering what the general opinion would be on the value of a true survivor '68 bump. Ours is 100% original styleside LWB with 45k original miles.. It has the 360 with manual on the floor. Completely original paint...some wearing through in a couple of small areas after 46 years. Underside still shows beautifully with body color and primer..the only rust on underside is surface rust on areas such as the springs, drive train, rear-end and frame rails. One of the cleanest I have ever seen except for one or two low mileage pieces that I have seen with under 20k miles. It's not showroom new in any way...just amazingly clean and in beautiful shape. Seat has had a vinyl cover since new and I have never removed it to see the original seat underneath because I want to keep the vinyl cover on it.

I will say that I would not sell it for under $11-$12k. Not saying it is worth that....just worth it to me. :)

I'll start off by saying this is my opinion and there are lots of opinions out there.

Our trucks are worth what prople are willing to pay for them. If you love 'em and gotta have one, you'll be willing to pay more. If you are indifferent and it is just another old truck, obviously the buyer is not willing to pay more. Be careful with using the terms true survivor, matching numbers , COPO, all these can be overused by folks just trying to raise value. Calling a small dining area a breakfast nook for charm doesn't add $$value.... I was really interested in a car that was described as original, matched numbers, yada, yada... no pictures. Got the pictures, it may have been original and it's numbers may have matched but it was a POS not worth investing time and money.

Sounds like your description is of a nice truck, expect a little more money. Obviously short beds are worth more than long beds... if I were looking for another truck to rebuild, I wouldn't pay that for a long bed. If I was looking for a daily driver or work truck, I wouldn't pay that for a truck. I might if I wanted to preserve another 46 y/o truck that I love and want to keep it on the road and turn heads!!

It's your opinion that matters when you decide what you want for it if you sell. If someone doesn't want to pay, don't sell. :2cents:

Good luck

Value is all in the eye of the beholder, or if it meets some specific niche. when my Father came to live with me for his lung cancer treatment, I wanted to purchase an exact copy of his truck he ordered in 1970, an F250 4x4 custom, so he would have something to help him see past his chemo, a goal for us to work on together. Very small market, there for, I had to up a little more than I wanted, but only a 70 would do. I passed up many trucks simply because they weren't exactly what I was looking for.

Truck value is a case by case basis.

Thanks for the input. Can't disagree with all of your comments. We love the truck! Its amazingly clean and original. But...agree that a longbed is simply not as appealing to many. As mentioned it really does not matter that mush asI don't plan to sell.

Trucks are usually worth about 80% of their parts value and 40% of the labor to get them looking good.

Marque vehicles (mustang, corvette, etc) are so much more desirable that their price scale sometimes drag the apparent value of an old truck up. As said above, which holds true for everything, it's only worth what you sold it for.
