Yes, I feel it's to the point that Keith should just change the forum rules to any new member needs moderator approval before their post appears on the forum. It's about seven steps to ban the user and their IP along with any offending posts.
Heck, I bet just locking the ability to post between midnight and 7am EST would kill off alot of it.

Don't get too much in a hurry to admin-approve every reg, and it should be 1-click to kill a spammer AND send their details to SFS and blacklists, AND delete their posts/comments/pics, wiping all their data from your forum.
I admin a few fora (phpbb, 12K members, 57K posts) and had these same issues until I instituted several blacklist countermeasures, via what's known as 'mods' in phpbb lingo. More specifically, Anti-Spam ACP (Admin Control Panel), and Advanced Block Mod. These mods are in addition to the built-in reg checks like captcha/Q&A, but the beauty in them is now I ADORE spammers hitting my forum, because it means they passed my blacklists check, and I'm the first enlightened forum that new IP/email/username has ever spammed. I'm now a honeypot, and as soon as I kill that reg, those parameters are added to SFS (stopforumspam.com) and other blacklists, and they are then unable to spam me or any other 'enlightened' admin (using these phpbb mods) ever again. IOW, killing is now proactive and with purpose, rather than reactive and fruitless. Alas, it's been many months since I've had a spammer, as I must have finally been removed from the xrumer forum lists. An admin is welcome to contact me via pm or hangout with questions, but I gleaned all of it from hanging out and searching the phpbb fora, mods section. Once we get the spammers licked, maybe we could get the Tapatalk Plugin Mod?
