I am buying a 73 ford maverick project with the 302 inside it and recently bought a turbo off of a 7.3 turbodiesel the Garrett, and im wondering if it is worth throwing this huge turbo on this maverick and you know really burning rubber because its already not original so i wont hurt the value there so i dont care about that . But i need some input on this turbo idea for the 302 motor in this maverick.
MotorTrend's guys on Roadkill built a 240z with a 4.3/5sod from an S-10. Totally stock engine internals bolted on a PSD turbocharger, made 400+hp at the wheels but had MAJOR lag...
All depends on your setup. You force too much boost into a stock engine though, and you'll be picking up parts that came out the big window You just installed in the engine block.
Bad choice for a turbo (too big), poor choice to try and do it in a Maverick (engine bay too small).
I did small twins in a '85 Capri before it was popular and it became a heat management nightmare. 351, 2 turbocoupe inter coolers, blowing into a 600 carb worked ok but...
If it were me I would just install a A trim Vortech and a return style fuel system. Boost reference the regulator's atmosphere port and use solid floats in the carb and you'll have more smiles for less pain.
