72' F250 CS "Rex" Sold! -update

Georgia. $20 tag fee. $3 ad valorem tax. Ad valorem is about 6.75% of total value of the vehicle so my truck is valued at.....drum roll....$45.

I have a PNO on file right now due to my truck being in pieces, but guess what my registration is on my 69 F350 when the time comes to register it?? $245 a year!! Yeah, gotta love the extra "weight fee" that they apply to one ton and above trucks... 11 more years till retirement and then I am getting off of the left coast. I am sure the registration in Idaho would be less than a quarter of what California's is.

Ah yes, the "weight fee". That's in addition to the "commercial vehicle fee" that we pay for all pickups no matter if you are using it for business or not.

Here's a fun one, I have a 49cc Honda Metropolitan scooter and the registration fee is $98 bucks a year. For a scooter that weighs 180 pounds!

Today I sold Rex.

Changing financial circumstances, namely a new truck, forced the sale.

Sold Rex to a guy not much younger than me, he's really happy with the truck and seemed like a good new owner.

So the price, I paid $1,200 two years ago, put about two grand into it over the past couple of years. Sold it for $4,000. First time I've ever made money on a vehicle, ever. Usually I'm great at buy high/sell low.

As it drove away I knew that I'm going to regret this for the rest of my life. Damn.

Here's a final picture, just before the sale today.

Congratulations on the sell. I'm sure it was hard to part with the truck, but sometimes it has to be done. My Dad sold his '73 'Cuda 16 years ago in order to purchase a little Toyota pickup for a daily driver. Today, that truck has 350,000 on the original clutch and has been used by my Dad, myself, and now my brother. Another project will come along...

An update on Rex.

So we went to the beach for a couple of days. Guy and his wife in the room next to us look sorta familiar, but hey lots of people look familiar eh?

Last day there we are packing up to leave and he asks where I'm from, and when I tell him he says, "Hey, I bought a truck from you last year!"

Amazingly he was the guy I sold Rex to last summer!

What are the odds of that? What have we got, something like 40 million people here and the guy in the next room over at the coast was the buyer.

So I asked him about the truck, a little afraid of course because maybe it blew up on him and he's mad as hell at me and wants his money back.

But nope, turns out it's been a good truck for him. He's dropped some money on it, he added full dual exhausts with flowmasters that cost "700 bucks". He also added black carpet and had the seat recovered in a brown fabric imitating the original. He's done some other minor improvements as well, and he sold some of the spare parts I gave him on Craigslist.

Overall he loves the truck and is very happy with it. "It's a great truck man, thanks for selling it to me!" were his parting words before we left.

Well that was great to hear. I'm glad he's taking care of it and improving it. Sad as well, because yeah, it was a great truck and I was probably pretty dumb to sell it.
