Okay, I really started on the....
Mustang gas tank install today. I have updated pics in my gallery. I put titles on all the pics from today, so you should be able to find them easily. It's not a tough mod, but not the easiest either. We've had to shave about 1/2 inch on both lower frame rails, remove the rear cross-member (replaced by 3x3x1/4 angle iron). Tomorrow I will build a frame out of 1 inch square tube to go around the tank. I should be able to get it fabricated tomorrow and be close to installing. Anyway, if you have any specific questions, let me know. Enjoy!

As any project under my control, it didn't go as planned. So now I hope to have the tank mounted/installed tomorrow and the fuel line bent and installed up to the carb. Anyway, I'll post some updated pics too.

I was able to get the tank mounted in the frame. I still have some work to do and many pics to upload. I'll keep everyone posted!

re: Okay, I really started on the....
Well, the update is this. The tank is IN!!! I definitely learned a lot during this. I still plan on writing the tech article on it. Just be patient as I have a lot going on in my life right now. Here's some pics....
This is the old tank that was mounted in the bed by a previous owner. There wasn't a filler neck that would take a gas cap. So, If it was full and I made a right hand turn, a tidal wave of gas would come out, NOT COOL!
Here's the Mustang tank installed behind the rear axle...
I have been able to mount the elect. fuel pump in the frame and run fuel line from the tank to the pump. I still have a lot to do before I fire it up again. I'll get another day of working on it Saturday and maybe tomorrow night. If you want to see more of the pictures from the install see my gallery at this link....

re: Okay, I really started on the....
Ok, got some more work done on her today.
The metal fuel line is bent and ran from the elect. pump to the engine compartment. I then ran rubber hose to my filter, then to a fuel pressure regulator, then on to the new 4bbl Edlebrock. All of the vacuum lines are connected. I put a new breather/oil filler cap on. I picked up the rubber hose needed for the fuel tank filler. The elect. fuel pump and gas gauge sending unit is wired.
I still have to prime the oil pump, work on the kick down tube, and re-assemble the rear of the truck. The pinon seal and tranny leak will be last. Much more to do......

It's sounds like you're getting close to the end, though.

Well, I took the 68 out on a little 15 mile trip through town at about 1130pm tonight! It runs pretty good except for some tranny issues. I'll be posting in the correct forum for that.
I still have to get the kickdown tube situation resolved. When I have it connected at the carb, it binds the accelerator. I also have to put a temp bed in, probably some treated 3/4" plywood for now. Believe it or not, I will have to have the "emissions" test done on it. Luckily it is only about $30 to register for two years here. I will be picking up a new headlight switch today since my dash lights won't work and I can't get any voltage at the switch. I also have to get a wiper and heater blower motors swapped out. Hope it doesn't rain any time soon! Anyway, that's my update for now.

No, I opted to have a bed floor filler. I did that after seeing many like that on the flareside models. I don't plan on using this as a work truck or hauling anything once it's in the restoration stage. I'm sure someone could run the filler anywhere they want. I've even seen the filler recessed into the floor with an access door. I'll try to find some pics online of those setups.
Yes, mine filled quickly. I'll post up some new pics as soon as possible.

hutch,
Here's a pic of a filler in the bed. This is a custom tank, not a Mustang tank. I just like the clean look of the filler. I plan on having my bed floor looking like this someday....

That's different. I just worry that I would have the back of the truck full of something and need gas. I plan on having some rubber mats to put over the wood so I can actually use it to hall stuff when needed. Plus I don't want to be careful putting gas in because I imagine it would mess up the finish around the filler.
Bumpless for now...

Yeah, that's just one example. I'm making a prototype with 3/4" plywood right now. I will put the wood strips in eventually. This is basically a mockup, and will be functional for use as a daily driver until the 99 F150 gets a new power plant. I'll be sure to post pics when it's done, (sometime this week, I hope).
