Cub Cadet

Post by Mancar1 »

I will never buy a Cub Cadet tractor mower again. :x Throws the deck belt at least once or twice each time I mow. Had to replace front axels, a tensioner pully, drive belt twice. Now the steering needs work. Only have 190 hours on it. Course in all fairness I do use it at the cemetery mowing a rough 7 acres every week.
All things considered, it has been ok.
Keep on Mowing....John

The hex flange bearing is shot. Easy fix have one ordered and on the way.
Anyone having a problem finding a mower part. I had the local repair shop tell me they couldn't find the parts I needed. Well I found a on line co. called Parts Tree.com and they had all I needed at fair $$$.
Called the local shop and gave them the # for Parts Tree.com. Guess I live in the sticks, they don't have a PC.

They were pretty tough when IH built them. Now owned by MTD that builds almost every garden tractor made.

:yt: It's true. Got get a part for a Troy built and it's in a cub cadet box. MTD is about it for most consumer garden tools. The only good thing I have from MTD is a 70s mini bike

Love my good old 81 wheel horse. It's bulletproof, but I don't know what I will do when I will need parts. eBay I guess.

Isn"t Wheel Horse by Toro? You could try Mower part pros.com #419 980 0412 for parts for your Wheel Horse.

Did someone say MTD?

My buddy literally unearthed this tractor under a huge pile of leaves on a property he bought. All that was visible was the engine cover. His wife said to scrap it but it cleaned up OK and fired up after I rebuilt the carb. He delivered it to my place and I've been reinventing/refurbishing it as a side project since December.

Custom paint.. Rustoleum Signal Orange. Dries too dang slow. Sprayed it with a $10 HF gun. :

That's about where it is at...I took it out for a test drive... the gear linkages need adjustment. It was throwing a belt but a few washers for shims and she's rather speedy.

Nice rebuild 8) I like the hitch. It is unreal how much these things will tow. I use a trailer at the cemetery made out of a 48-52 Ford Truck bed. I can fill it with dirt or gravel and my little old MTD, minus the deck, just pulls it like nobodies business.

Thanks. I'm having fun with it.

We scrapped the deck and I deleted all the linkages and brackets. It's gonna be exactly like yours... a towing-only mower since he already had another tractor. This "find" was a bonus. I planned on painting it pink for his wife but he nixed that idea... we're going with a SF Giants motif hence the orange paint. Oh, I left the deck actuating arm so that I could attach a "beverage" holder. I found one at West Marine that clamps on boat railing... it's attached to a gimbal so he should never spill a drop.

Btw, this thing has a twin cylinder, 18 HP Briggs & Stratton. Isn't that out of the norm for lawn tractors?

Tractor mowers have been offered with twin cylinders for a while now. I am looking at a Husqvara RZ 461 Zero turn mower.

Ahhhh parts came in a little while ago. Now I can get the steering back together in time to mow the cemetery on Wed. and leave the Deere at home. Cub Cadet rides over the bumpy terrain a lot better.
