Rattle

Post by Mancar1 »

When the road is smooth the 68 has no under carriage noise, but when the road is bumpy. I get a loud enoying rattle from under the frontend. Darn, I have not been able to locate it. Any pointers?
May your sails stay full, and your knots not slip. Unless a slip knot.

Check the exhaust pipe & muffler from front to back.

Spare tire if mounted underneath can rattle too.

Thanks for the input all.
Not the retaining plate under the spring tower.
New shocks, and the bushings on radius arm are old but ok.
Exh system 2.5", new and solid. Spare is bolted topside to bed.
Will keep hunting and when I find it, and I will. :hmm:  I will post what is was.

No not yet. Have so much else going on I don't have as much time to play with the 68 as I would like.
Thanks for asking.

My rattle is due to caliper bushings missing...I was too ignorant to know what they went to when I rebuilt the brakes, and threw them out thinking they were there to fit another model. Trash man had already come by the time i figured it out. Still need them bushings, too! :P

I have a weighted rubber mallet that I use for diagnosing rattles. I get under the vehicle and start tapping around until I find something.

That is so obvious I can't believe I haven't thought of it. I have been hearing a rattle under my truck for a while. Guess what I am doing this weekend.

The upper and lower fender mounting bolts nearest the cab on my truck work their way loose every couple of years. Also had a couple of rivets on the radius arm brackets get loose.
