Any Texas Folks Here?

My wife and I also made the flight from California to Texas back in the spring of 06. I got my first job in Tracy, CA after I got out of the military but it didn't take very long for us to be worn down by the lifestyle and expense there. Neither of us were originally from Cali and we only lived there just shy of two years.

Texas was like getting a promotion in life. It was cheaper and nicer in almost every way as far as lifestyle goes. Its cheaper overall and less problems with generally less people. We both made less money initially then when we lived in Cali but we could still afford more. There are of course nice things about Cali and things I don't like about Texas. In central Texas the terrain is not my favorite, I love mountains. There are also less public lands to do things outside like you can out west. It is also hotter than heck during the summer months, but that makes for nice mild winters.

I don't know what you do for work, but chances are you can come to Texas and make a comfortable living. The government is good and so are the people. Just make sure you bring some AC for you old bump.

Any of you fellas live in or from Texas? The wife an I are pretty much over Cali now an Texas has been a huge topic for us for a few years now. My Job is closing up shop an moving to Mexico/China in the next year or two so its time to split. The bay area is just toooooooo expensive. We have a 2yr old boy so we look at all as a good next step in life an starting over an putting him in a MUCH better school system. Alot of factors are brought up about the move including cars/guns/laws/weather/etc. So talk me into it guys or talk me out of it we are looking in the Fredricksburg/Comfort/Blanco TX area which is mid west of Austin an San Antonio. Any of you guys know the area?
I'm an industrial Mechanice/Fabricator by trade an the wife is just about done with school for her Pharmacy Technology stuff
