mystery ratchets

i was working on my subaru at a friends house and he gave me a old school single handle mobile craftsman toolbox with a bunch of old tools inside of it he didn't want. i rummaged through it and found 3 busted 3/8 drive ratchets that need to be rebuilt. these ratchets have no identifying marks of the manufacturer on them.

has anyone here ever rebuilt ratchets?

is there a universal rebuild kit for some ratchets or are there certain styles of ratchets that certain ratchet rebuild kits cover? i've found rebuild kits on the internet but they all say they are made for specific model ratchets making me think that each ratchets innards are unique and the rebuild kits are specific to 1 ratchet

i'll send you 3 ratchets to rebuild and you can keep one

In my limited experience (42 years of wrenching) I've found every brand and style to have different innards.

I've had ratchets that I thought were bad only to find that a little oil in the right place made them work just fine. Yours may be defective but oil is pretty cheap!

yes. each of them is missing the adjustment piece that goes on the back of each ratchet that you switch to determine whether to turn clockwise or counterclockwise.

there is no way to identify the brand of these ratchets.

i'm writing these off and throwing them in the garbage. as you said all the insides are different on each brand. it's a crapshoot trying to figure out what brand these are or what guts go in them
