Why Does my 68 Hi Boy Have a Pull Handle Parking Brake?
I just read one of the "did you know" headings on this website and it said starting in 67 Ford switched F-250 and F-350 trucks to a foot pedal parking brake connected to the rear brakes. Mine has a lever style brake left of the steering column. Any thoughts?

Since no one has replied I'll just venture it was installed for some odd reason by a PO during the trucks lifetime. I've seen the pedal mount break free from the dash before so who knows.

I also would think a PO installed the handle. My 65 CS had the foot applied E brake like my 68 CS has.

From what I understand the lever type brakes applied pressure against the driveshaft rather than engaging the rear drums? I'll have to look at mine tonight.

Re: Why Does my 68 Hi Boy Have a Pull Handle Parking Brake?
My 68 4x4 has the hand brake also, mine is attached to the rear drums just like the foot pedal brakes. I know mine is factory installed as my Grandfather bought it new. I believe that 67 was the last year they used the hand brake for f250 and 350. I think they had extra stock left over, so i bet that your truck as mine was assembled during the early part of the production year.

I'm not sure about the left over parts theory, my truck was made in May of 1968. I also looked at the truck today and the cables run to the rear drums.
