I keep looking at what you have done and thinking:
"What could he do if he had a mig welder/tig welder/plasma cutter etc...?"
... I've got skills, ingenuity and no regard for maintaining any kind of historical preservation/authenticity...

Thanks, really appreciate the compliments, but I can't take all of the credit. My dad has taught me everything and has been a huge help with this project.This is probably one of the best father son projects out there :)

Got a lot of work done over the past few days :) We finally got the truck in the garage so I did not have to deal with the weather whenever I wanted to work. My main goal was to get all of the seams form the floor pan and fire wall patches sealed. I used some 35 year caulk that dries clear and is paint-able.

Here are some pictures of the floor pans all sealed, waiting for the caulk to dry

After that i sealed the fire wall and around the cab mounts

Once the floor dried I de-greased it and put on some primer and paint

Then I went to town on the firewall. Cleaned it up, de-grease, and painted

The last thing on the list for the cab (other than doors) is the cab corners. Was going to buy them, but my dad figured out a way to make them himself, so there's some more money saved.

I also sealed the floor from under the cab, so once that dries I can throw some paint on the bottom of the cab.

Not sure when I'll be able to get more work done due to school starting next week :hw:

Got most of the front suspension tore down today. Springs out, shocks out, and tie-rods out. Most of the nuts were a real pain to get off. They took a lot of heat and penetration oil to get them to turn. Gotta love rust :roll: Hope to order the bushings, king pins and tie rods some time next week. Sorry for no pictures.... forgot to take out the camera, and not much to take pictures of anyway.


Tomorrow should bring some more progress.

Yesterday I decided to take out the radius arms and clean them and paint them. Problem is, there is no point in cleaning and painting some thing that looks like this.....

I can't believe that they deteriorated that badly :cry:
I'm guessing that you can't buy these new, so some junkyarding will be on the list for next weekend. Could anyone tell me if radius arms from a dentside would work also?

Yes, dentside radius arms will work. Be aware, however, that they are stamped steel, while ours are forged. They may look a little different, but they will work.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to try to find some from a bumpside, but dentsides are more plentiful in my area. We were hoping to get the front suspension done this week, but that's not going to happen.

Well, at least I get to go junkyarding ! :D

ah man i feel ya!

i was just thinking last night, laying under my truck, about how glad i was that the nuts were actually turning when i turned them... the hardware on my 50 year old truck (from NC) is easier to remove than my wifes 10 year old van (from WI) ...

you might be able to get someone down south to pull those and ship them to ya. I'd be afraid just about anything else up there will be in the same condition.

I've got my eye out for an f-250 disc front end, if i find one i'll grab the radius arms.

Man, it's a shame that they gotta use salt on the roads in winter :cry: . The main reason that the radius arms are rotted so bad is that it sad in a damp pole barn for around 10 years. That did not help at all.

We know of a bump in a junkyard that is fairly rust free so we are going to check that one out first. If that doesn't turn out, getting some from down south would be next on the list. If you do find a pair, I would love to get them if I don't find anything. I live in Algoma along the lakeshore, so shipping might be fairly expensive

Looking at the quality of work you have done, I would say try and weld those Radius Rod ends and then grind them smooth. This looks like a small job compared to the other things you have already completed. And if it doesn't work you can go ahead and buy newer ones.

We had thought about doing that, but we were concerned if that would weaken them in anyway due to the welding? :hmm:

I have also been slacking on posting updates, but have got allot done. the box is currently off, and there is no hope in saving it. (wouldn't be worth the time and money) so we decided that we are going to fab up an 8 ft step side box after seeing 69Ford's 69 f250 stepside with 8ft bed
I really like the look, and I wouldn't have to shell out the money for a replacement bed.

I'll post some pictures of the bed removal later. I just don't have much time anymore with school getting in the way.
