Brother, I'm really loving this thread! Everything looks great, even despite your attempts to convince us you don't know what you're doing with bodywork (seriously, who are you fooling?). If that is the truth, you've got me inspired, because I sure as hell haven't got next to a clue on what to do most of the time. I'm chomping at the bit now, ready to get my project started after three years of wishing and dreaming since I bought my Bump!

Seriously, thanks for all of your updates. Your tutorials and 'lessons learned' are much appreciated by this newbie.

Work stalled for a few months. But I am starting to get back into it now. The bed is still off and striped. It has some surface rust, but compared to what I have already done it will be a breeze to sand off and prep. I am about a minute away from ordering the console shifter, as well as a wiring kit. Now to figure out which one I had settled on....EZ or Rebel. Hmmm. :hmm:

It's pricier, but I got the Painless 67-72 Chassis Harness, specifically for our trucks. Installation is going slow for lack of time, but it's pretty easy so far, and it comes with a lifetime warranty.

Since my last comment, I've gotten to work on mine. I hope you don't mind, but I'm copying your console idea after my wiring is in. I also put in 67 Mustang bucket seats, new carpet and headliner, lots of DynaMat... Getting there.

Also, I have begun putting together another truck, mostly from all the spare stuff around here. The body is a 76 step side, the frame a 69. It will receive the NP435 that is currently in my 68 truck. Engines to choose from are two 360's, a 90 5.0 GT, a 390 or potentially build and install the 351M I have. Right now it has 1/2 ton front suspension just so it is a roller. It will get lifted 3/4 ton beams to go with the massive Dana 70 in the rear. I have hoods, fenders, inner fenders...most everything except a core support. Junkyard trip soon....Ecology is having 1/2 price days on July 6 & 7.

That Dana 70 looks like a dually and from the width it looks like from a cab and chassis, is that going to work with a Flairside bed?

Congrats on the Painless harness!

Please feel free to use the console idea. Glad someone found it nice enough to copy. :woohoo:

Honestly have no idea yet. That truck is not even on the back burner, it's so far down the list I haven't thought about it in a long while. I do need to move it with in the next year, and plan on sticking the cab on and setting the bed on. Will have a better idea what I'm looking at when that happens.

A little update:

Currently have my C6 on the bench. Doing a full rebuild with thrust washers, pump selective washer and bushings. It started life as a slushy passenger car tranny. 3 clutch direct, B apply lever and an N code servo. I'm upping the clutch counts and installing a D code servo I had on hand for a little more band apply pressure. If I could figure out how to get the ridiculously tight pin for the B lever out, I would swap in an E that I have. I'm changing it from the long tail housing to the short housing. Also installing a Superior shift kit. I might splurge a little and do a #9 thrust washer/torrington bearing swap too. This should give me a pretty decent trans. I've posted a few questions in the Driveline section if any C6 guru's are reading this.

Also, I recently got a much larger 2 stage air compressor, so I will be able to shoot paint as soon as I can get things ready.

That #9 thrust washer to torrington bearing splurge turns out to be free. I have been slowly raiding parts from an friends broken FE cased tranny. I was going to use it's short output shaft and housing (not going to now...no speedo gear on the shaft), but in taking the shaft out I discovered the rear planet assembly has 4 planets (compared to my 3) AND the #9 is a torrington. So I will pirate the sprag inner race, sprag assembly and complete planet assembly for another upgrade

Not completely sure after reading this, but it sounds like you might have a spare short shaft and housing (ie. truck shaft) for a C6 that you will not be using? Is this for a non-4WD truck which means it has the spot for the speedo in the housing? If so, and if it is extra, how much do you want for it shipped to 91355? We have a 2 C6 transmissions that we want to make one good one out of for my friend's FE motor. Only problem is one is out of a car with the long shaft and housing, and the truck one is 4WD with no speedo hole. So basically I am in need of a short shaft and housing with a speedo hole.

Let me know! By the way, kudos to you for tackling the tranny rebuild yourself. BobbyFord came and rebuilt mine for me and as I watched him crack that open and start working on it, I was lost as to what I was looking at. Of course, he did it as easy as pouring a bowl of breakfast cereal. But then, he used to rebuild them for Ford.

Haha, thanks, That doesn't surprise me that BobbyFord would do it that easy. I've been reading a lot of info from him. This is my 3rd C6 and 7th automatic (a TH350, a Powerglide, a E4OD and a transaxle from a 92 Dodge Daytona round out the others). I did most of a C4 a long time ago, but that got shelved then sold off. On this one it is finally starting to really 'click' in my head. I won't need a manual except for random specific numbers anymore.

Sorry Calfdemon, gonna keep this housing. It's the 5-3/8" with bearing and bolt-on cast iron speedometer housing. I can count on one finger how many I've seen
