Turned out great, all the little extras just top it off. Awesome job! Another crewcab on the road for many more years.

Wow, I luck out at $156 per year for my 68.

Re: Calf's 69 Crew build, and CNM67's 67 shorty build
Thanks for the compliments all... I am still pretty stoked about how it has come out.
I played hooky from work a little today and drove the beast over to the exhaust shop for a full custom exhaust. I already had the magnaflows and the tips and they are putting it all together for me. I went with 2 1/2 inch exhaust off the Flowtech headers.
Here is the beast up on the rack:
My exhaust guy (a neighbor of mine) is a perfectionist and does awesome work. He worked on this thing all day in between some other jobs and is putting in an awesome setup. Since I have the auxiliary gas tank, he had to run my exhaust side by side down the passenger side and put in a cross pipe. He is then going to come back over the rear and have it exit behind the rear wheels on each side. Here are some pics of the progress:
Had to make a couple bends to clear the shift linkage and give it room to operate:
He said it is the longest custom job he has ever done. He started to get tired and did not want to cut corners or screw anything up, so he has some bends done for the rear, but did not weld that pipe in yet and will finish tomorrow. In the meantime, we started it and it sounds GREAT!! Here is a quick 7 second video of the new sound. He was locking up the shop while I filmed it, so I did not video any of the throttle, but it sounds mean:
Anyway, I will post up some updates tomorrow night with the final product, and then I made arrangements to get my lugs swapped and get my wheels on for Wednesday (hopefully). So moving right along!

Re: Calf's 69 Crew build, and CNM67's 67 shorty build
Just picked up the truck and drove it home. Holy cow is that thing WAY more powerful with the backpressure from the 2.5 inch exhaust. When I was driving it with the open headers, it was a bit of a dog which is what I expected from a truck this size. But after the exhaust was installed, it hauls ass and I can pretty much spin the big 33's at will. Not as well as Bobbyford's, but pretty damn good for a CC long bed!
Anyway, here are a few more pictures of the exhaust as it was getting finished and once it was done. There are a few more pictures on my phone as well, but I have not uploaded them to photobucket yet, so I will add them later when I get back home. Had to go back in to work for a while this afternoon.
Up and over the rear differential and then back to the driver's side:
Dumping my exhaust out the sides behind the bumper. Also, there are so many hangers on this exhaust... LOL!! He did not want it coming loose so better safe than sorry! That exhaust is not going anywhere!
The end of the tip clears the bed enough to read Magnaflow on top, but they do not stick out past the bumper:
Here is how they look with the truck on the ground. A nice clean exit:
And what you see from behind:
The exhaust system is so clean and sounds so great! I could not be happier with what I got from the guys at Newhall Muffler.

Re: Calf's 69 Crew build, and CNM67's 67 shorty build
I scored them off of Craigslist locally from a guy who had them in his bumpside when he bought it. He pulled them and sold them to put a stock seat in. He did not know what they were and what they were from, or what they were worth, so he sold them for way less than he should have. His loss, my gain. I had them re-upholstered, but you can see the what they looked like originally on page 10 of my build.1972hiboy wrote:im sorry is its been asked or stated but what are the front seats out of?
Anyway, I had already looked at these seats new when I saw the Craigslist add, so I knew what they were and what they were worth. They are originally from this company: http://www.discountvantruck.com/truck40 ... kseats.htm and were a version called "Lotus" which is no longer pictured, but here is the page where the Lotus seats were: http://www.discountvantruck.com/truck40 ... sLotus.htm
Their other versions which are on the first link are still very close to what I have. As you can see, they are not cheap. They even have a hidden ice chest under the center seat. So I can keep some road sodas on ice.

Congratulations on a major milestone with your build! The truck looks great.Calfdemon wrote:Just picked up the truck and drove it home. In reference to "backpressure." What you experienced, going from open headers to an exhaust system, wasn't the 'benefit' of backpressure increasing the low-end torque. It was an increase in flow velocity of the exhaust system scavenging the spent exhaust gases that produced more low-end engine torque.
Backpressure in any exhaust system isn't an attribute. It's a negative that you don't want. Flow velocity is what you do want.

Re: Calf's 69 Crew build, and CNM67's 67 shorty build
Thanks for the info! I have always heard it called back pressure and not in a bad way. I knew there was bad back pressure, but also heard that there was a good amount as well. I did not know the good was called flow velocity. Same idea, just different terminology. Now I know!
Well, got home and uploaded the rest of the photos to my photobucket. Nothing extraordinary, just a couple more of the tips from a different angle, a picture of my truck as it was getting ready to leave on a test run, and then a quick video of the start up with the new exhaust complete. Tomorrow, the ugly rollers that are on my truck should be off and I should have my Anson 5 slot mags on the truck!
Anyway, here are the pics:
And the beautiful sound of Magnaflows... (click to view the video):

Wow, she really turned out nice! Your exhaust guy tucked everything up real tight so it's not hanging down low. I bet your neighbors are going to be as happy as you now that the truck is a bit quiter.

I wouldn't say that my neighbors (a few) would be "happy" with me... Instead, lets say that they will be less unhappy with me. Most of my neighbors are great and like me and my projects. Some of them have their own. But there are a couple of neighbors that no one would be upset if they moved away... And THOSE neighbors do not like me.popeyes71 wrote:Wow, she really turned out nice! So for today's updates... I got the rear driver's side lugs swapped out. Had to pull the axle and put in a new seal, but now all of the lug nuts are righty tighty.
The Anson 5 slot mags are still my favorite wheel of all time and just look so right on our trucks. Unfortunately, the 33's that were on the front wheels that used to clear the fenders on my 72, did not clear the fenders on the 69. I am sure it is because of all the extra weight this truck has and bigger motor.
I was forced into buying 9.50x16.5 tires for the front which was not in my budget this week. I was planning on getting 4 new tires in about a month.. But now I have the front ones taken care of. So at least I do not have to spend that money later. I think I am going to have the mags professionally polished here in the near future. But I love the look of my truck with these wheels. I am happy the ugly rollers are off.

I agree on the slotted mags. They just look right, which is why I am keeping mine despite the 16.5 size and minimal tire selection. Don't know if you put new coils in or not, but that might help the front a little. If they are new already, a spacer would bring that front up a bit.
EDIT: In searching I came across these. I might try them on mine since I plan to install a compressor, tank and rear helpers anyhow.
