Edit: Just noticed this is my post #1776! Is that apropos?
Maybe it's a sign that it's time to vote with your feet (go someplace more inline with your beliefs).

So whats with the personal property taxes out there? They can tax pretty much anything you own on a yearly basis? They seem to consider a lot as real property. My truck? Computers? WTF??? Please tell me this isn't as bad as it sounds (and be honest!)

Nah, it's a DOT support thing. Outside of your home property taxes (unavoidable everywhere), it's related to those personal property items that are used on the roadways or require a license tag or registration like boat trailers, utility trailers, vehicles, campers, and mobile homes (just because the have axles). It's all tax deductible though.

Georgia vehicle tag registration comes around every year on your birthday. The others are paid once a year before the end of the year so it can be included on your tax deductions for the year.
There are a lot of great small towns within an hour of Knoxville. Jump over to Maryville and head North or South on Hwy 411. Watch your speed through there though, most are speed traps and the speed limit bounces up and down from 25 - 55 - 25 mph within the same 5 mile stretch. Ask me how I know Good luck on your property hunt!
