Craving 80-86

Post by thejunkman »

So, I don't know why the last few days I've been kicking around the idea of unloading my daily driver 98 chevy, and replacing it with an 80-86 body style F series. When I bought my chevy a few years back, there was an 83 that was super clean for the same price. I was selling my 2002 car to get the truck, the wife was mad enough I was going "backwards" to 98. So I didn't dare buy the 83. Well now I'm jonesin' again. I had a couple 81s, one with a 300 and a 4 spd manual. That thing could climb trees. I miss her every day. Anyway, these are out of my price range, but check them out...

hahaha NOW I read your signature. Of course you have! What draws you to the 80's models, just out of curiousity?

They were good solid trucks as long as the engine didn't leak oil all over the wires causing the insulation to fall off...

Not real sure. I kinda grew up around them for one, and I owned a few and they were tough. I know rust is a major issue with them, but no worse than my era chevy. I have a rotted out 80 that I'm gonna tear down and junk this week, so maybe it's just that I'm feeling the loss  . A couple years ago they were all over these parts, but now they are turning into rare classics. Don't worry, I'm keeping the bump. The bump has gone into storage for the winter though, so I start stirring with all kinds of other truck thoughts.

That's what I run, I have two, an '85 and '86. Both 3/4 tons super cab IDI diesels. Superb rigs, beats anything they make today.

For the modern trucks I like the 91-96 trucks but the bullnose trucks have charactor. Here is one in Atlanta. I know it does you no good but some good ones out there cheap.

I've had an 81extended cab shortbed, an 82 flairside shortbed, an 83 fleetside shortbed, and a 96 fleetside longbed . The 82 flairside with the straight 6 was my favorite. I almost got another Bullnose before I fell in love with the Bumpsides. I'd like to have both, but the boss said I could only have one  I love all Ford trucks!

I still miss my '78 Chevy Blazer. (This one's not mine, just a pic of one.) I hope I don't get banned for saying that!
