Adventures in Truck Repair

Post by SoCalExile »

Here's the story:

As some of you guys on Facebook saw, I melted down a wheel bearing and had to get my bump towed, on the insurance company's dime, to a shop on the military post I work on so I could repair it. In the process, the towing company driver tagged a tree limb with my windshield :( :

Keep in mind I'm in contact with the insurance throughout all this. The tow company sends me to a shop. At first I drop off the truck, then get a call back about how the place didn't get the seal that accepts the molding. Well I'm not accepting it without, so I bring it back when they have the part in.

I bring it in yesterday, turns out they broke the replacement windshield trying to get it back in, so I had to leave it overnight.

Today, they get another windshield, I get a call about 330pm that it's ready. I grab the wife and head over to see this:

So yeah, affter 10 minutes of the guy trying to tap the molding past the glass he gave up and I have to leave it for a third day.
I understand that the molding is a pain to get right, but don't tell me it's good when it looks like that.
I already sent the pics to the insurance and the towing company. I just needed to vent.

ETA: And if anyone happens to know a competent shop in the Augusta, GA, area. Please let me know.

It looks to me like they tried to put the molding on after installing the windshield in the truck.
It all needs to be assembled before putting it on the truck.
Rubber on glass, then the trim/molding then install on truck. Not hard just have to make sure all is lined properly.

Yes I agree it looks like that is what they did.
Mine was rubber then molding then install and was a pain but not all that hard to get right.
Hope u get it squared away.

I can't offer any insight on how to install a windshield in one of these trucks but man that sucks. Good thing they didn't tear up the molding. Anyhow, I would have told them that you'd find the shop to install the glass properly. There is a guy out in Carrollton, GA that is high but they are good. It is too far for you to bring but there are people out there. Usually find a restoration shop and find out who they use. Good luck too you on this one.
