My rebuilt steering box from Redhead Steering Gear will be here Friday. After I get the box installed, I will be able to bolt in the brake booster/master assy and begin installing the hard lines.

I love that they followed your undercarriage paint theme!

Oops, my mistake. They must have accidentally sent you parts for Heirloom's truck.
Cheers,

Re: BobbyFord Short Bed
Well, that endeavor ended poorly. The paint that I put on lifted and wrinkled the red paint. I was forced to use an entire can of brake cleaner and half a quart of acetone to get the silver and red paint off.
The entire steering box is now semi-gloss black. If I had it to do all over, I would have asked them not to paint the steering box at all. By wiping it down with brake cleaner I removed the paint mark on the adjustment bolt, voiding my warranty.
Oh well.

Looks good BobbyFord. You said the silver paint wrinkled the red and lifted it? What paint were you using? I wonder what Red Head uses.

Re: BobbyFord Short Bed
Not sure what they used but it was still soft, not fully cured. My bad, no matter what. They asked me on the phone how I wanted it painted. I said I didn't care. Nobody to blame but me.Heirloom wrote:Looks good BobbyFord. You said the silver paint wrinkled the red and lifted it? What paint were you using? I wonder what Red Head uses.
However, I believe in them and they've been awesome online and on the phone. They provide a great service with these old steering boxes, I can't wait to drive my truck with all the new steering components. I will give vendor feedback in the appropriate section.
I was using some metal finish Dupli-color paint.

Re: BobbyFord Short Bed
G'Day Bobby, I like what you did with the steering box's paint, and I can relate to your color preferences. I've chosen a lot of bright colors for things in the past, only to semi-regret it later when they started to look horrible--and it doesn't take long, does it. Thank you again for the steady stream of excellent photos.
