OT 89 ford escort brakes

89 escort 1.9 5 spd p pb air. I try not to drive this car A months ago the brakes tried to go away and then came back on second pump. Next day the brake light comes on fluid full. Brakes still work. A week or two later. I got a hard brake pedal first time i brake. . Not everytime though.
