I've considered the front end from a 60's cadillac eldorado, for a chevy swap but might also work in a ford.
If it's not broke, MOD IT!

Good to see you still kicking, Craig! Heck, if we can drop a Crown Vic front end under one, and a Tbird rear end, I don't see why a front wheel drive couldn't be done. There's a 70's era Olds Toronado sitting in a yard up from my work. I see it every day on the way to/from work and think about the front wheel drive on it.

That is an interesting idea.
Manual transmission platforms are few and far between anymore, but it could work with something like an edge or flex drive train (automatic)...
It would be a major undertaking though....
