so i uninstalled my oem bench seat. i cut off the hog rings peeled the cussion back and gently removed the pieces of my original build sheet that were stuff behind the cushion!! it's like 60% missing. i mean lots of little pieces. i salvaged what i could from the original build sheet. taking it in monday to get laminated. test fitted the 96 bench and it's a nice fit. need to modify my brackets slightly. i know some of yall will disagree with this but i'm throwing my original bench in the garbage.

pulled 2 more steel wheels at the junkyard today. got the tires pressed off my collection of steel wheels today. also pulled a dash from a 88 xlt lariat at the junkyard. although i defunked my original dash after removing it, i have decided that it is in too poor of condition to keep. it has cracks and holes. this dash i pulled today is in great shape. only problem is it's blue and i need to dye it brown. i have all the correct vynil dye and spray prep. so tomorrow i'm going to attempt to paint the dash i pulled. going to degrease it real well and cross my fingers. hope it comes out nice. can't find a good condition brown dash to save my life

Seat swap!

The new seat sits noticeably higher and cuts back on head room and seat-to-steering-wheel clearance, but not to the point of making the truck uncomfortable. The newer F-series seat is MUCH more supportive and comfy. I also started assessing the rear brake issue. Turns out the hard line running to the back got rusted out pretty bad and sprung a leak. When I was handling the leaking part, it literally crumbled and broke. And to think I had driven this thing at 50 mph on the road like that...

Fixed my brakes and stared at the alternator in hopes of fixing it telepathically. No luck with the latter, looks like I'm just gonna have to buy a new one tomorrow

Over the course of the last couple nights after work:

-Replaced alternator, voltage regulator, battery
-Replaced alternator and power steering belts
-Replaced brake light switch
-Installed a new keeper on the throttle linkage on the carb (did this on the side of the road)
-Installed a second lighter, "helper" throttle return spring running up through the middle of the one that was on there

And the big one... DROVE IT! I've been driving it a lot! Back when I had my 1962 Chevy pickup, I learned that the best way to make problems surface so they can be corrected is simply by driving it as much as possible. So far, I've done a lot of wrenching on this truck in my driveway, regardless of weather, and have already learned quite a bit by working on it.

Not today but very recently, I fitted up a '79 Bronco 1-1/8" rear sway bar on my '69 F100 shorty.

After fit/mock-up, I took it all back off to paint it Ford Semi Gloss Black.

Image

I removed my stock C7AW-E single vertical rib 9-inch 3rd member, with single track 28-spline differential and 3.50 ratio and, replaced it with a factory Daytona N-case 3rd member with a 4-pinion 31-spline Traction-Lok differential and 3.50 gears.

I replaced my stock 28-spline axles with some 31-spline axles from a '71 F100 that had a 9-3/8" rear end. (31-spline axle on the right).

Image

I also modified the cargo light to double as a 3rd brake light. Cargo knob on dash pulled out.

Brake pedal being applied.

Short video clip of the 3rd brake light operating in hazard mode. In the first half of the clip, only the hazard switch is on and the cargo light flashes red along with the tail lights. In the second half of the clip, BOTH the hazard switch AND the cargo knob are activated together to make the cargo light alternate flashing between red and white.

Fabricated a very small brake line and bent it to correct position (difficult with such a small piece) and finished the tear down of my Dana 24 transfer case for resealing.

I put on a new master cylinder, booster, wheel cylinders, and shoes. The old shoes had just crumbled apart.

It runs. Took video of it running. Long story. But the front cover gasket failed around the passenger side water passage and blew some coolant out. So i get to fix that. And ill replace the timing chain while im there. Thats two timung chain jobs i have to do now.

Tuned the carb, then tested it with some peg leg burnouts (it wouldn't break traction at all before the carb tune)
