Lowering truck cutting chassi - chassi drop, is it safe?

Post by Hiroshi »

Hi guys, I'm planning to lower my bumpside, but my engine is too heavy (1.110 pounds), so I think it's not good idea using DJM or even IFS to to this.

I was browsing over the net, doing my research and I found something i'd never seen before.
The guy cutted the chassi right where the engine and suspension stays, so the chassi/engine/front suspension comes up and the cabin comes down...

The result is a lowered truck, of course.

Take a look ate these pictures

The suspension is crown vic or something similar, but ...what do you guys think about this, is it safe if welded by a professional?

I was thinking to do something like this, but using my original I beams. :D

The rear is the usual, C notch...

I'm sure it's been done hundreds of times before... back in the day it more or less the standard custom way to graft GM F-body, Volare, and many other subframes to older hot rods... doing so requires fishplates and full-boxing of the across the affected frame section. There is a guy in here or the other site who used a 60s Lincoln Continental frame stub.

Thanks, i didn't know it was standard way in the past.
So it is safe if full boxing and stuff?

I'll just say a Z'ed frame isn't a job for a novice... 'Need a 220V welder, verification of lots of measurements, and excellent weld penetration throughout.

Where did you come across this build? I'm doing the crown vic swap myself and was wanting to go lower without forking the cash over for a M2 set up.

Thanks!
