swapping steering wheels

Post by WarEagle »

Hey all,

I am swapping in a '68 steering wheel into my '72 with a column shift C4 2WD. I've read here that it will fit if I grind down the center shaft.

1. How far down does it have to be ground?
2. Which year replacement turn signal switch should I use for after the swap?
3. What about the horn hardware?
3. Any other tips for this project?

Thanks!!

G'Day WarEagle,

If you haven't already seen this thread, you might like to skim through it. Unfortunately, I haven't done whatever's required to make the horn work, so my swap's still incomplete.

I kept my original '72 turn signal switch when I did the swap, and it seems to work fine. There may be year/switch variations that I'm not aware of, though.

Robroy,

Thanks for the great link! I did find that the turn signal switch is the same for '65 to '72 2WD's so that should not be an issue. I'll install the steering wheel as soon as the restoration is done - filling the cracks and painting it.
