drum to disc conversion
Hello to All,
I am new to the forum I am looking for information on drum to disc brake conversion on a 1971 f100 that has been lowered front and rear with DJM suspension kit. All the information I find replaces existing spindles with either new ones or spindles from a 73 or 74 model. Since the spindles have already been replaced what are my options? I want the truck at the ride height it is currently at which is about 4 inches in the front and 4 to 5 in the rear.
Thanks in advance for all replies.

Here's what I did https://scarebird.com/index.php?route=p ... uct_id=149 I like it because it uses off the shelf parts. If you shop carefully the whole thing can be done for about $400 and if you're short on cash you can piece it together over time.
Other options include http://www.mpbrakes.com/index.php?route ... lter_name=
http://www.summitracing.com/search/prod ... 100-pickup
I know I have more links but I can't seem to find that folder right now. Good luck and please post some pictures when you do the changeover.

Canonman67,
Thanks for the information I knew that someone had done this before. What year and make pads do you get since this is a hybrid setup?

Here's the parts list. Obviously the calipers are left and right hand but other than the typo it's complete and correct. I have an instruction sheet and parts list on PDF if you want it, just pm me with an email addy and I'll send it to you. This was probably one of the easiest things I've done on the truck so far.

Re: drum to disc conversion
I actually took the time to line things up but when I hit submit it crowds it all together. The three groups of numbers after the application are part numbers that correspond to the Napa, Wagner and Raybestos above the line.Canonman67 wrote:Here's the parts list. Re: drum to disc conversion
Do the bearings come with the Scarebird kit or do you use standard Dodge bearings?

Re: drum to disc conversion
You use the Ford bearings inside and out. Actually it's the same bearing for both the Dodge and the Ford.

Re: drum to disc conversion
On the 1/2 ton 4x4s with 5 on 5.5" pattern and closed knuckle, Jeep CJ conversion kits should work if they list the Jeep full sized pickup with D44 front and closed knuckle (made 5 lug until late '73) I play with Jeeps, Fords, IH and a few GMs and commonly find the crossover stuff (except small block Chevy motors)

1972 Front Drum to Power Disc Conversion and Power Steering Add On
Hello all,
My Son and I are working on his first car and it's a 1972 Ford F100 with Drum Brakes and no power steering. I had read in Fordification to g find a donor truck from 1973 -79., S we pulled the whole front assembly, Power Booster, Master Cylinder, Proportioning Valve and Brake Pedal assembly as well as the steering box. The truck unfortunately did not have a steering wheel which I understand we will still need to find due to the length issues.
We had not planned to do this transition until a little later but now it appears his brakes are having some problems. We had already replaced all of the rear brakes, cylinders etc... so we are assuming something went bad with the front. So instead of spending money fixing the front drums, I think we are just going to have to go ahead and move forward on the transition. So where to start?
I would like to put the new front end in but I have some questions.
Is it ok to use the Brake Booster and Master Cylinder from the 78' 150 or should I replace it?
Is it ok to use the proportioning valve from the 78 or should we replace with one of the aftermarket ones I have seen. If so, which one?
Do I have to mount the power steering box now or can we do this at a later date? Will the arm mount to our existing manual box? not sure about
I would much rather just get it all done but not sure about total over all costs.
We were not able to get the power steering pump or bracket off the 78. do I buy one for a 78' or a 72'? Also, any recommendations on a bracket?
Thanks in advance for any advise or help as we are knee deep in the unknowm and could sure use a little help.
Thanks,

Re: drum to disc conversion
F100ATX you really should start your own thread it'll generate more responses. Having said that, I'll give what help I can. I read somewhere that the '78 booster is different and won't bolt in our trucks. I don't know if this is a mid year thing or not. The pedal assembly isn't a bolt in it requires some modifications. The proportioning valve should be fine. Personally I'd go ahead and do the steering while I was at it. Have you read the tutorials on steering and brakes? I'd post a link but I'm on my phone and it's not as Lionel friendly as my desktop.

Re: drum to disc conversion
Thank you for the advise. It's my first time posting on something like this. I appreciate the advise. We were thinking about trying to at least trying to put in the front end this weekend without the Steering box from the 78 and hope that the manual steering box will mount up ok. I was thinking we were going to need to get a new booster anyway. I suppose I better get one ordered.
Thanks again
