Grumps 1972 long to short project

New project started. 1972 F100, has a swapped in 460. Plans are swapping in a Crown Victoria front suspension and a Explorer rear end with 3.73 gears, limited slip and Disk brakes. I'll try to keep this thread updated as the build goes along. Advise and comments are always welcome and encouraged.

Let the tear down begin. The body is pretty straight, but there is some rust that will need to be taken care of.

1976 460 was swapped in a couple of years ago, still running good. Previous owner said the engine has approx. 40,xxx miles on it, just needs some performance goodies. Just want a nice cruiser, not looking for a dragster or tow rig.

Looks like the drivers side floor board will have to be replaced or patched.

460 pulled out, thinking I'll just clean it up, maybe new intake and c

arb combo. I'll look into some headers for it also.

Pulled the bed off, man some of those bolts just didn't want to come out.
I made this cart for my truck bed. I think it will help when it comes time to make a short bed out of it.

Made a trip to Vegas, spent some money, and actually brought something back with me for a change.

Long bed to short bed, starts with cutting the frame. The point of no return! the sawzall made short work of the frame.

Welded in some fish plate on the inside of the frame and more than likely I will box this section of frame in. Might be over kill. The wire wheel and grinder/sander will get a work out cleaning this frame all up. I will follow it up with some POR-15 and some top coat.

Time to get the rear axle out, the flame wrench makes short work of the old rusted u-bolts.

I have an Explorer 8.8 with 3.73 limited slip gears, with disk brakes, just waiting to get installed.


Hopefully I can find a way to use the sway bay and the traction bars.

Time to start cutting apart the front suspension, so I can make room for the Crown Vic suspension.

Started ripping and tearing the front suspension out, about the time I realized I didn't mark the center line of the hubs, It was too late.
