Front Brake issue, need help

Post by windhamdw »

I have a 1971 f100 that was convert to front disc brakes before i got it which was about 6months ago, have been driving it with no issues for awhile. One day my son and i went to the dump and the front driver side caliper locked up on us. So i figured i would redo some of the brake system, i replaced the booster, master cylinder, both front calipers, rotors and brakes. This morning we go the master cylinder bench bleed and then bleed the whole system which went pretty good and had great brakes during the drive way test. Later my son and i took it for a street test and three stop signs later the front drivers side locked up again, you have no idea how mad i was, after all that time and money and still had the same problem. Anyone have any ideas? The only thing i havnt replace is the soft line that goes to the caliper, would that cause the problem?

It.s killing my son that we can't drive it anymore please help us out.

Thanks David from Tennessee.

If the caliper slides ok on the bracket , I'd replace the flex hose.

Sounds like air in the system to me. Which yeah could be from a cracked hose or loose fitting. Also check the e-brake and make sure it's not sticking.

The rubber hoses can collapse inside causing that.

Then I will replace the flex hoses and rebleed, wouldn't the e brake only effect the back brakes?

Thanks

Ditto what Ranchero50 and cept62 said. Hoses can go bad and stay open under pressure, but close and hold the fluid in the caliper when you let off the brake. Fingers crossed that it fixes your problem.

I replaced the the hoses and cut open the old ones and they looked pretty good even the metal parts looked pretty shiny. Has anyone ever had a problem with the booster rod being to long and having to use washers between the booster and the master cylinders? I notice when I tighten the master cylinder onto the booster fluid is bubbling and I have the rod screwed all the way in now, but before it was screwed about an half an inch out.

Going out now to rebleed, cross my fingers.

Thanks
