E-Brake parts

Post by 72Richb UK »

Hi Everyone,

It's been a while since I was lst on as life got complicated, to un-complicate it I bought a '72 F100 and had it imported to the UK from Oklahoma where it had been sat in a field for 10 years!

I've started overhauling the things that need doing to get it on the road, the engine took 20 minutes to service and install pertronix II system and fired up after 4 turns

I'm now on to the brakes, stripped down the rears which was easy compared to some horror stories I've heard but looking at the shoes and springs I realised things were missing, no spreader bars, no park brake levers and underneath one cable tied to the bottom of the bed and no equaliser....

Can I find these parts for sale? In a word. NO

I have 3 new cables to fit but can not find anywhere that sells the other essentials to make it work. Does anyone know any different or have these parts spare they can ship to me in the UK, 9" rear with 11" drums.

while I was doing some research into this I discovered that the Long beds require extension cables to join the rear cables to the Equaliser so I thought I'd grab them off my '72 F250 long bed as I'm making that a Short bed BUT guess what, it doesn't have extension cables :hmm: :hmm: but it's all connected up and working! am I missing something here? do they sell long rear cables for the long beds?? any thoughts.

any and all help greatly appreciated as I need to get the truck on the road by June 20th for my youngest sons prom as he told me 3 days ago he wants to go in the truck! no pressure then

Regards

Rich Baker, stressed in the UK...

One of my favorite places to shop is Rock Auto Parts:
http://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/ford,1972

These guys have a lot of old Ford parts. You might contact them:
http://flashbackf100s.com/

Then, of course, there's always Dennis Carpenter Reproductions. They actually have a lot of the original Ford tooling for these trucks.

Here is the site links page. Lots of good stuff here:
http://www.fordification.com/links.htm

Those parts are out there, but it may take some digging to find them.
You might also post an ad in the parts wanted section at the bottom of the forums main page.
Good luck!

I encountered the same issue. I had a hard time finding any diagrams or anything showing the E-brake setup, but had read that I would need "extension" cables. I searched and ordered a couple online (found them on the shelf at a ford dealer in North Dakota), I then tracked down the equalizer, and other related hardware (at junkyards). When I went to install it, I had no need for the "extension" cables. Everything hooked up just fine without them. :hmm: So I can't answer the question, but all I can tell you is that mine doesn't have them either, it works just fine now, and I have two cables sitting on the shelf that I can't wrap my mind around. By the way mine is a 67' long bed. I started wondering if the extension cables were for some other option package back in the day?

This is the picture I was given as a reference and someone said the cables were used in 133" wheelbase trucks but I thought the long beds were 131"?? unless like you say there were different models or for F350 and up?? I will win at this as my son wants me to take him to the prom on June 23rd! no pressure lol

The part number stenciled on the frame is a '73 (D3) so perhaps they're used on later model trucks. When I was looking into cables I only found short or long bed. The front cable was the same no matter what wheelbase.

where did you find listing for short or long beds? I can only find front and rear, the only possibility is where F100 are listed separately to F250 but
F100's came as long beds too, did 250's only come as long beds?? :hmm: :hmm:

I believe that F250s only came as long beds and I have mentally labeled them long beds in my mind. As far as where I saw them I can't remember right off hand but I'm assuming the usual suspects, NPD, LMC, Dennis Carpenter, etc.

Thanks Canonman67, I'll have another look at those sites, I'm guessing if I just order F250 ones they'll fit my F100, I now have the E-brake parts being shipped to me from a couple of great guys in the States. one step closer to being on the road..
