Steering linkage/alignment issue

Post by 67 hoopty »

Just purchased a 67 F100 SWB 2WD. Got it as a stalled project from the seller. All the front suspension is new but was just thrown together so it would roll/steer. Discovered the tie rod assembly was flipped so that the inner was out by the spindle and the adjuster would hit the trailing arm. Corrected that. Tried to do a quick "tapemeasure" alignment to get the toe close. Withe the adjusting sleeve screwed all the way in so that the two tie rod ends are bottomed against each other I am still at 1" toe in. I need another 1/2 inch or so of adjustment but the tie rod assembly is adjusted as short as it will go. All the parts fit together properly and "look" right. Any Ideas? Wrong parts?

:wel: from Georgia! That's what I'd be thinking. Go get the "correct" one from the parts store and see. You can always return it.

Is the adjusting sleeve centered?

67 was a weird year.....NPD's catalog has listed the length of tie rods and drag links.

Yes, sleeve is centered. Tie rods are bottomed against each other in center of sleeve. I got the measurements but have not had a chance to check against mine. I may just cut 1/4 inch or so from each tie rod. This should give me the extra inward adjustment I need.

Seems the inner tie rod end for a 73 is 5". That's an incher shorter than the 6" one specified for my 67. Im not sure what the real issue is but the shorter tie rod end should fix my issue. I can see that the PO replaced the king pins and the spindles look clean and fresh so maybe they were replaced with later parts. Maybe that's whats going on.

Hi. Did you ever find the cause of this? I'm having the same problem on my 68 F250.
