Anything to Soften Bumpy Ride

Post by Cal2121 »

I have a 68 Ford F250 CS and it's a little bumpy riding. I know I need to put new shocks on it, but is there anything else parts wise that I can do to smooth out the ride a bit?

Tires. Good ones will make a bigger difference than you'd expect. Also, suspension bushings, and check the alignment.

Shocks only dampen spring movement. You will feel little difference in ride by adding different ones

This is a 3/4 ton TRUCK that was made for work and heavy hauling so the suspension is suitable for that purpose and does ride rough as hell compared to the trucks of today.

The ONLY thing that helped me was the installation of solid 16" wheels a Bridgestone radials. Your truck originally came with split wheels and bias tires.

My '71 rode really nice with the wonky spring setup in the back (I forget the Ford name for it). It rode a lot nicer vs. my dad's '03 4x4 F250.

My dually doesn't ride bad considering the bed only weighs @ 400 lbs and it's a dually with 80 psi in the tires. Of course it rides alot softer with the load of dirt that's on it now.

Yeppers! Frodo definitely rides like a truck without a load on!
