I beam bracket

Post by Zorm »

So, rebuilding the front suspension, got everything ready to go back in the truck so I have been cleaning/painting the frame and the bottom of the cab. Cleaning off 43 years of crud from the drivers side, something leaking, steering gear?

Anyway while I was cleaning, scraping, I noticed the bracket that goes from the I beam pivot point to the cross member on the drivers side is real loose. The passengers side is good and solid. Both brackets are riveted to the cross member, should the drivers side move? If not, I can just grind out the rivets, get some grade 8 hard ware, remount and move on right?

Also noticed that when I removed the radius arms, the passengers side lower shock bracket is riveted to that arm but the drivers side is bolted to the arm, is that normal or could either have been replaced?

thanks for thoughts

Sounds like somebody's done a little shade tree repair at some time. They should be solid and tight with no movement. Remove the rivets and use Grade 8 bolts, washers and either lock nuts or lock washers and hex nuts.
