Thanks guys. It feels good to get compliments from truck lovers on here! Well I had a bit of warm weather left so I decided to change all the fluids in the truck. Front and rear axles, tranny and transfer case. Motor oil was changed way at the beginning. I also pulled all the inspection plates and cleaned everything out real good.

Front looks the same (just has a tie rod in front of it). Also polished the axle ID plate and shot it with clear so it won't rust.
This picture is from mid summer but this is how I got my box home. Drove a few hours like this( it is strapped in too) got lots of looks but I was happy. Box was decent shape somebody had welded the whole lower passenger side on with aftermarket panels so it's a bit wavy. One little rust hole in the corner of the bed floor and the wheel wells have zero dings in them- this box must not have worked it's whole life.

It finally got cold out so progress has slowed down quite a bit.
Image
I painted the bottom of the bed gloss black with hardener and had a ton left so I just painted the whole bed to see what it would look like glossy. Now I can easily the see the spots that need attention. I also decided to put the bed on- all by myself. I laid cardboard on the bed rails so not to scratch them and slip in on fairly easily, took ten minutes.

Had my helper with me( why is it that when I have heavy parts teetering on sawhorses she wants to sleep under them?!)All my construction buddy's mocked me when I told them I was getting a golden doodle but she's a nice puppy.
Tractor supply didn't have any rubber washers to mount the bed but they did have rubber water dishes for 3 dollars...
Image
Image
Here's how she sits today looking sad and neglected. I wanted the bed on just so I could move it around it weighs a ton and sat in my front yard all summer. When I go to paint it I'll unbolt it and scoot it back so I can spray the front of it.

Hey no problem Popeye. I've been reading everyone else's builds so I couldn't not post. I'm not going to the great lengths that you and many others do on here, but I just want to drive it as soon as I can. Maybe in 20 years I'll tear it all back apart and make it more of a show truck. She just needs some miles on her before she retires just yet. No updates really working on wiring lights and trailer lights and sanding the box. I hate sanding so I lack motivation to do it sometimes.

Wow. Thats a lot of work and looks great!
Paint work is tough but looks from the pictures like it turned out really well.

Glad you didn't listen to those ridiculers. The boxwood green looks rad

Thanks guys! Well I started wiring from the cab back with all new 14 gauge wire. Started out soldering all the wires together but quickly found out my solder gun is junk and switched to butt connectors.
Image
Image
Painted up my light bulb housings silver hoping for better reflectivity and it seemed to work nicely.
Image
Got my trailer lights hooked up along with the tail lights. All this wiring took entirely too long with three trips to town for stupid parts. I had the bulb housings laying in the bed facing forward so I could make sure everything worked by sitting in the seat looking back. The housings need to be grounded to work! Seems obvious but it took me 45 minutes to realize it. The housing wouldn't ground to the truck just by laying in the bed. Checked and rechecked hard wired everything in and the running and brake lines got switched.... Idiot

There is always a lot of trial and error working on these trucks. I my opinion that is what makes it fun and interesting. Taking this 40 year old truck and keeping it going is great.

Yeah lots of trial and error. At one point when I switched the turn signal on, every single light on the truck would flash. That was interesting haha
