Haven't worked on the truck for a while my wheel horse tractor blew the transmission so I had to get another wheel horse and swap them out, gotta be able to snowblow. I've mostly been sanding on the bed almost got the driver side done, need a bit more bondo for dents I can't hammer out then I can work on the passenger side. I used a brass brush on the sport custom emblems and they cleaned up real nice. Then took them inside and put some nail polish on them. I think they turned out nice.(not trying to brag about my nail polish abilities )

I know sport custom doesn't match the ranger front but the bed came with the emblems. When I get ranger ones I'll throw them on.... Nobody will know they don't match except you guys

Your truck is going to look great! I love the color of the wheels with the green. Very nice combo! It's great doing it all yourself. Major sense of accomplishment. Plus you know how things are put together if you have problems. Good work!!

Funny...I used to mess with Wheel Horse lawn tractors. I have had 412 and a 416 with tiller and push blade. Also a mid 70's 8hp. can't remember the number. My dad had a 1956 with a 4hp Kohler and he pushed lots of snow when we lived in Ohio back in the 70's. Tough stuff. I got a bigger yard about 10 years ago and traded it all for a JD 425 garden tractor. It' awesome. ok back to trucks...

The guy I bought my parts wheelhouse tractor said there is a wheel horse forum. I checked it out and there's a bunch of people with those tractors and it's just like this forum! Who knew?

So I've been sanding and filling scratches and dings on and off since I last posted probably over ten hours worth on this stupid box. It was pretty rough, it won't be perfect but it's better than it was. I'm figuring another day spent on it and it'll be all sanded and cleaned ready for paint. Should be interesting trying to clean all the dust off it since my garage water is froze, but I'll figure something out.

I was going to throw the sport custom emblems on temporarily but picked up a ranger emblem off eBay for 10 bucks to see if they would interchange. They do not interchange. The sport custom emblem has 5 posts to attach to the bed where as the ranger emblem only has 3 posts. The ranger posts are probably twice as thick too. I used the forward most hole and drilled two more then filled in the rest. You can see here where the holes are filled in and none of them line up.

I sanded a bunch more today and finally called it good enough. Pulled the truck out of the garage and swept all the sanding dust out. Then I grabbed my leaf blower and blew the whole garage out... That dust was everywhere and I don't want it to pick up once I start painting. Blew the truck off pulled it back inside and gave it a good wipe down. I think the truck looks better outside in it's natural environment

your only missing one thing....a big ole plow on the front of that...so ya don't have to freeze your arse off snowblowing on that wheelhorse

A plow? With a highboy and skinny wheels, one does not need to plow the driveway or the road ever! I remember having one of those as a shop truck, and that beast would go through anything a Canadian winter would throw at it!

Thanks guys! I'd like a plow one day for it, the truck was made to work to earn it's keep. Bullitt those dark green bucket seats look sharp where did you find those at? My seat needs a new covering anyways.

Well I finally got some more paint laid down. Notice the Christmas wrapping paper... Super cheap haha.



I think it turned out real good, very little orange peel. The paint was just a mid grade 2k epoxy. Just mix in the hardener and it's ready to go. No thinner is needed. Had a little left over so I cleaned up the shifter knobs and brought some color into the cab.

Figured I'd take her out and see it in the sun. I present to you for the first time in full panavision color...


Had to jump it since it's been sitting awhile and I had done a bunch of wiring and killed the battery. Pulled it out in the sun and after a minute it died. Looked for a while checking battery, alternator and wires; finally found it. Can you spot the problem?

One broken wire going to a post on the starter solenoid. A quick fix and one more jump start and she was purring like a kitten.


Still need another ranger emblem and need to install the new marker lights on the bed. Also need to find a tail gate. Do 73-79 tailgates work on these and look right? Pretty excited to start on the interior next.

That broken wire on the solenoid wouldn't have caused the engine to die. It would have prevented it from cranking over however.

It wouldn't crank over. If I put the jumpers on it would crank. Then it would run a minute and die. Then it wouldn't crank again. After I fixed that wire it worked I'll try it again later and see if it's still fixed... Maybe I bumped or missed something else in there.

It looks even better one solid color! That's a great looking truck! It does look more comfortable in a more natural setting!
