a horse with no name - F100 build
About 2 years ago found a 71 F100 with a low mile 390 rebuild at a low price, it was a abandoned half baked project of a member off fordtucks and sat for a decade. I missed my last 71 and had to get this. I have been going through it to make it a stable daily driver and it has turned into a money pit. It has a bad frame and is starting to have major suspension issues. since i got this truck have been looking for a frame and found one. this frame looks that it has not really seen a salt road and its last life as truck it must had been hidden away somewhere
I got a like new mustang tank some time ago and put it on hold since i would have to pull the bed. I got the rivets out to remove the rear member and will move it back. i marked and cut frame to 1 3/4 inside to clear tank but could not finish the other side. ran out of disks and ran what batters were charged dead. did test fit and is still too tight a fit so need to finish the other side
I also found that the bolts for the shackles came out without a hole lot of issues. i am going to use these drop hangers that were going to be used to fix a broken one but could not get them out. I am going to cut them short for 1in drop since the 2in hole would hit the bed. I will mod them to fit tomorrow and will cut one coil off the i6 front spring. would rather have a negative over a postive camber that i have on my truck

Wow you made short work of that donor truck. Are you going to blast the frame? Good job!

need to get these frames swap in a short time so am not going to blast it. when i get some more money will go over it with loctite extend rust neutralizer where there is rust or may just oil the frame

I'd paint it while it's bare like that. It will never be easier than now.

Re: a horse with no name - F100 build
found a bunch of hands and got the the truck striped most the way, the front clip is set aside and the bed migrated.
this is the damage to the old frame, it looks that someone hit it with a torch that accelerated the bad rust on the inside. someone tried to weld up the passenger shackle and they broke apart on me, could not get it apart so chained it up. I also had the rear shock towers snap off on me.
i am going to do rear suspension mods and replace the inner front fenders in sometime in the future, so I am not fretting painting the frame at the moment since will see it again.

I got all the drivetrain off the frame and am on to trying to swap that cab over to the other frame. going to try a few ideals i have to get it over tomorrow, the amount of hands found were not enough to get it over to other frame.

Re: a horse with no name - F100 build
got more monkeys this time so was able to get the cab rolled off one and on the other. still need to get the motor to sit down on the frame and put the clip on. will have to move the perches back so the header can clear the frame. the old frame is cut in 6ths and ready to scrap

Re: a horse with no name - F100 build
, those extra hands sure do come in handy. That has got to be the worst frame rust I have ever seen. I'm glad I don't have top fight that here. Keep up the good work!

Re: a horse with no name - F100 build
i had some time today to go work on my truck. I got the motor perches moved back a bolt hole set so it sits down correctly
at a prior time I cut a ear off the the block so this mini starter would fit and if have time tomorrow will pull it back off to take it down more so the wrap will slide all the way down
I cut the hack job with the driver side front cab mount off, it was in my so I can brace the floor
this is the condition of the floor on the driver side and what i have as front cab mounts, will brace this up tomorrow so can support this side of the cab up on this plate
got the clip set back on as well, will bolt it back on if there is no reson to pull it back off tomorrow

these are pics I took the other day of more of the cab rot and bondo hack to the back. with the extent of damage to the cab I think i should source a replacement at a latter time

I thought I had a bad cab to start with....if you save that one, then
I've had enough and I'm not alone

I cut the rotten section of the floor out today and am not sure what was stacked on the support. there was a mud flap between the support and the sign
I also got the cab braced up and may raise the front of the bar up some, will add more bolts. this gives a firm point to mount the cab on that support plate that was there
