Tranny Rebuilding
How hard is it to rebuild a C6. Mine is on the way out and would like to rebuild it. Is it that hard?
How can it be spoiled if it still tastes good

No, the C6 is actually one of the easier trannies to rebuild.
You will need some special tools to get the clutch packs out of the drums, and get a set of seal protectors to protect the seals when you reinstall everything.
Haynes publishes a Techbook on how to do it, it gives step by step pictures. You should be able to find it at your auto parts store.

How hard is the c-4 to rebuild? I received a "freebie" but was told it would need to be overhauled or rebuilt.
Thanks,
Patrick

transmissions are a specialty for sure- get some books and do some research before you tear into it. i'm sure you could do it if you prepare beforehand. personally i have always let a shop do them-mainly for the conveinence and liability- imo- jd

I would suggest checking with some local shops. There are some places out there that will charge you less than $300 to rebuild one. Considering a master kit is going to run around $150 -$175 the extra hundred or so for the warranty is not a bad deal (plus you get a cleaned up trans back to boot)...JMO

C6 is a good first one to start out on. You will need a clutch press. A set
of bushing drivers. Air to ck. the clutches when you put them together.
And a good book with pic's so you can see where all the parts go. C4's,
C6's, Torkflight's, 400's, all are pretty easy. Stay away from the Cruis-O
-Matic. My opinion? Go for it! KP
