Haha yup! I've done only minor things to it lately. Until it left me stranded. Something is going on with the charging system again. I should probably do the 3G swap and be done with the problems. also just picked up a carb kit today for it since it needs it bad. It's kinda been on the back burner of late, way to many other projects going on. I do still get to at least look at it1guydude wrote:Well? U just cruzin enjoying ur truck?

You will not regret the 3g swap. Got 3 trucks running them. 2 to go.Lone Ranger wrote:Haha yup! I've done only minor things to it lately. Until it left me stranded. Re: 1969 highboy boxwood green
Thanks for the link Manny. The 3G swap doesn't seem to tough. Any advice or things to watch for when I go for it?
Rebuilt the carb the other day feels like I have way more gas pedal now.
Truck has been running hot lately so I decided to swap the water pump. I figured it's cheaper than a radiator and it might fix my problem. Well got the pump home painted it Ford blue and then found out it didn't fit. Oops. Took it back to napa and swapped it with the right one(somebody gets a free paint job ). I was glad they took it back at least. painted up all the pieces.
Then threw it back together.
Also changed the alternator with another I had laying around hoping it can get me by for now. The water pump helped but didn't fix my over heating problem. Guess I'll just have to get a radiator, bummer.

Re: 1969 highboy boxwood green
Well I made a scrap run today at the local junkyard and decided to scout around for a radiator while I was there. I didn't find a radiator but did find an alternator from a late 90's supercharged mustang.
Once it was on the bench I decided to wire brush it off and decided a wire wheel would be faster. It quickly made it shiney and put a bit of paint on it where it was black.
Once I get the rest of the stuff I need my truck is getting the 3G swap, no more charging problems. Then I can clean up all the wires in the engine bay.

I've been looking at radiators too, looks like around 150 bucks that I don't really want to spend right now. Stuff adds up quick. All the money from selling my last truck went into the wife's car so I'm trying to do things low budget for now.

Nice! Truck looks great and enjoying watching the upgrades. That alt turned out sweeet! Just had to replace the old radiator in mine. Went with a champion alum from jegs. Good fit and was only $230...

Re: 1969 highboy boxwood green
Thanks guys. I've been pretty busy but still find a little time to tinker with the truck. I installed a maglight/weapon above the window.
Also got a new distributor cap and rotor. The new rotor made it run a lot better but the new cap made it run awful( it would barely run) and there is no way to make adjustments, so I put my old corroded cap back on and it ran great also tightened all my vacuum lines up and really noticed a difference with that runs great now again! Still haven't gotten to the 3G swap yet, and I want to upgrade to eloctronic ignition too. Here's a pick of the new fuel pump top end.

Looks good as always. I have never seen a angled oil filter adapter on a 300 six. Was that on there when you got it?

Yeah I swapped out the filter but figured it was a stock setup. Do they usually stick out sideways?Manny wrote:Looks good as always. I have never seen a angled oil filter adapter on a 300 six. Was that on there when you got it?
Truck has been running great! Just ordered a mega fuse for the 3G swap. Got a few days off this weekend so hoping I can work on it.
With the 3G swap does the voltage regulator get deleted?

Re: 1969 highboy boxwood green
Yep and yep. Normally 300's stick out straight from the block. But hey always something new to see around old fords. As for the 3g swap yes you delete the voltage regulator. Just google the 3g wiring diagram. tons of them. The 3g should take your yellow and green wire from the regulator. Then the white wire loops from the alternator connector to the field windings connection. Think you have that connector right???Lone Ranger wrote:Yeah I swapped out the filter but figured it was a stock setup. Do they usually stick out sideways?Manny wrote:Looks good as always. Re: 1969 highboy boxwood green
Just looked again yes the yellow is the voltage sensing. the green and red stripped is key on energize you can pull it from the old voltage regulator as you aim it at the scrap can..
