OK now the bed back from the paint booth. Realized it had to be assembled to paint it or all the fasteners wouldn't look right, so used a wood dolly "frame" to get it down to the paint shop. I'm going with the American Flag stained into the woodbed, starting final assembly. I can see the finish line! One issue, I use a great shop in Chantilly VA for upholstery, turns out my cowhide is too thick for their sewing machine, but they are coming up with a plan.

Also, full disclosure and just to get on my soapbox: This truck was shot at MaaCo. Now I hear all the haters, but here's my point: it wasn't left to be "done by MaaCo", it was shot there by an incredibly talented guy who has done over 4000 shoots. MaaCo has great dust-free downdraft booths with eloctrostatic guns. It's all in the prep: Their equipment and booths are top notch, if your body goes in there prepped to top spec (and you know the shooter is good), and you invest in quality paint (PPG), you can get a show-quality paint treatment out of MaaCo. or a least out of their facility....

I'm going "updated original" so everything that counts (to me) is original, or original datecode: drivetrain, sheet metal, trim, paint codes etc. I went electronic ignition, updated the motor with an offenhauser intake and a small 4bbl along with ceramic-coated header, power brakes, modern wiring harness, grade 8 hardware and stainless brake/fuel lines and stainless exhaust (though that last one still has to be fabbed). It will have the original bench seat, though covered in cowhide, but NOS rear springs, front coils. I'm going with remanufactured OEM look shocks and steering damper, might revisit that after I drive it.....

I agree on the straight 6! This is an under-rated motor: It's maybe 40 HP (gross 170 vs 208) less than the V8 (4WD don't care about HP), and in this application 30lb less TQ, (315 v. 285) yet the 4.9 responds better to simple changes in intake and exhaust, and is absolutely indestructible, and weighs substantially less. It is used in industrial applications all over the world simply because it is, well, simple. The '67 only came with a 352 or a 300. I'd argue for a 4WD the 300 was a better choice.

I've seen where guys run a dual carb setup on their straight six; or they put a different cam in it and hop it up. Just a cool little motor. It's like a tractor motor. I've also seen vids of them built up and they sound like a diesel. Do you have any plans for the motor?

Always a debatable subject: If you increase HP you increase TQ, but HP gains often come from WOT and mid-to-high RPMs. Low-end usable TQ is less about total flow through the engine and more about stroke and exhaust flow at lower RPMs, along with tightness of cylinders/rings. This 6 Cyl was rebuilt with no drama from Powertrain Products in Baltimore; honestly they run a Ford 300 Factory, every step is done to exacting standards, and cheaper than I could do it, though it's running forged crank and pistons. I added 350 CFM Holley, Offenhauser polished intake and Ceramic headers, give a better flow: I'll dyno this in 2WD mode when done to get a real-world figure on net HP and TQ. The NP435 "granny" non-synchronous 1st gear helps quite a bit here in practice as a 4WD.

I'll post up pics of original wheels with slightly wider T/As on it (not there yet, gimme a week). Agreed if I go bigger wheels they will be OEM type steelies, though I'll have to go 16 or 17 to get the right tires. I want to get it all done with OEMs and have a look. I'm also a bit torn about mirrors: I found a set of original NOS camper style side mirrors. I'm embarrassed to say I forked over $200 for the set but the are literally NOS and in the box. As everyone here knows the are just drill-in-the-door mount, tri-mount mirrors. I love them, the are what WAS a truck in '67. i could also go with 75 style side mirrors, they are much cleaner. I'll post up pics, maybe folks here can help me decide.....

So here's a shot of the bed wood in progress: The underside has already been sealed with polyurethane, this top side was done with stain not paint to let the woodgrain show through and be a bit rustic. The are the 8 bed boards put together (they are already routed) so then the stainless strips will break up the stripes,only way to get the right flag dimensions and stripes on 8 boards. Stars will be painted on and then the whole thing multi-coated in urethane. Of course the unstained ends are covered by the bed-end stainless strip, and a bit more touch up needed.....

The designation was "Custom Cab" I appreciate the nice NOS emblems but not the right ones, I have the originals I'm just rechroming them.

Test fit: The "white" stripes are just clear coat, the red and blue are stains, next are the stars and then the stainless strips that should clean everything up!
