Re: The Start of my 4x4 Build
A lot of the sheet metal for these trucks is available aftermarket, but just be aware it's not the same quality as original. I bought a parts truck out of TX for $400, it cost me another $500 to have it hauled to VA but I got a nearly rust-free body that saved me TONS of cutting and reworking. Might be worth your while to look at Tuscon Arizona or high desert area craigslist to see whats out there. Just a thought...Good luck! Great project!

Will be praying it goes smooth and you and the bumps have a new home!!!hdman90 wrote:Well, not much of a physical update, but I am making progress on a couple issues.
1. I got the title in the mail a couple days after Christmas, so that's good that it's officially mine! (only took two months to process )
2. We looked at a house last week and they have already accepted our offer, so if all goes well, the bump will have a new home!
3. A friend that I've sold/traded parts with a few times found a whole parts truck for $600. We are discussing going in halves on it; he would take the bed/hood and I would take cab/doors/fenders, and I would do all the driving/transporting.
Things are lining up, hopefully all goes well!

Re: The Start of my 4x4 Build
I have no doubts with this truck! Looks like it was definitely a southern/western truck. It has dents, dings, and paint missing; but for the driver that I am trying to build, it is perfect. Here are a few photos... Hopefully the seller pulls through come spring time!67Step4WD wrote:A lot of the sheet metal for these trucks is available aftermarket, but just be aware it's not the same quality as original. And thanks everyone, I will surely keep ya'll posted!
Oh! I also found a rear driveshaft for the truck down the road for $100! What are the chances?! Now selling a couple grilles and inserts to fund the parts truck/driveshaft purchases

Re: The Start of my 4x4 Build
Was just told yesterday that the truck has a Canadian Salvage title
As long as I can take the body parts I need off, I don't really care, but it certainly may be an obstacle when it comes to scrapping/selling the frame...
House inspection and septic test are in a few hours, I'll let you know how it all goes.
Kyle, I won't own three trucks, the black 4x4 will get this body (minus the bed).

Re: The Start of my 4x4 Build
Well, the inspection went great, but the septic failed. So now we wait and see if the sellers are willing to fix it... back to waiting again... I hate this process...

Yeah those septic fields can be a costly venture if that is what it's using?

Re: The Start of my 4x4 Build
Yes, it is currently a leech field, but I wouldn't be surprised if they make them update it to a different system. But time will tell!cdnwillyg wrote:Yeah those septic fields can be a costly venture if that is what it's using?
Until then, it sounds like in the next couple weeks the guy will be ready for us to come pick the parts truck up!

Re: The Start of my 4x4 Build
The waiting game can be unnerving in the house game. Hang in there! At least there is some good news on the parts truck and the ability to pick it up soon.

Re: The Start of my 4x4 Build
I think most house inspections want you to dig up the septic and pump it out, when in reality they are fine. Ours had to get pumped before we could move in. The home owner should have to pay all that though. They also might not want to dig it up in the winter. Sounds like you got it in the bag tho good luck with it all!
