Re: Manny's 67' F-250 Highboy Restoration
Before and after pics of this kind of work is the most rewarding because it has the biggest change to the vehicle. What I like is that if you screw up just do it again with little to no cost...just time and you don't have to be so worry about the paint!Manny wrote:popeyes71 wrote:My hats off to you Manny! Re: Manny's 67' F-250 Highboy Restoration
Progress from the weekend....
Feathered my corner out gonna need filler and grinding of course but I am pretty happy. Won't be all the seams that is had from ford as I am having to fill them with weld but hey it will be solid..
Then Got my spot weld cutter drill bits in that I had ordered. Remove the rear drip rail. Had some bad rot had to just burn thru and in. Get on solid metal spots and small beads it was burning away the junk putting in the good.
Also the lower cowl. It wasn't rotted out completely. Just soft. Using a technique from a friend of mine you dent it in low. Then spot and fill with weld. It may burn thru but this went fairly good just got it filled partially. Gonna needs some more welds and then its strong and not soft.
Next back to the top. A big piece of brass gives you a nice backing to help weld up stuff like this.
All for now more to come!

I suggest the use of allmetal as opposed to regular bondo on all the fixes around the door and drip edge

Re: Manny's 67' F-250 Highboy Restoration
Never heard of it and never used it even most of the guys i know haven't. I will give it a try no doubt. I am a evercoat guy but they have the same thing as all metal i think.67mann wrote: I suggest the use of allmetal as opposed to regular bondo on all the fixes around the door and drip edge
Paul thanks for the complement. I hope that your cab is not as much work as mine..
Moving on. Cut out the top back toward the rear. Added a piece of metal to act as the drip rail metal.
If you look here it really helps fill the void and get the drip rail solid with welding it top and bottom.
Takes a while to weld it in.
Drip rail check passes.
There got that.
Primed up again.
New patch again genuine metal from the bedside.
The rear of the cab was thin but not destroyed. Welding there was the most logical as it will be coated on the back. Same trick i learned on 73-79 crew cabs weld weld weld. Fill the drip rail halfway with seam sealer, and rock on. Of course may be using all metal filler too!
Thats the driver side!! Now to the passenger.

So Manny why didn't you get a cab that was more challenging for you????
Great job, keep up the great work!
You will need to take before and after shots, and post together, the change is amazing.

I wish I had those skills too - great work Manny! I don't have as much bodywork to do, but I'm hesitating . Guess there is no better way to figure it out than to get at it. Watching what you're doing is great guidance.

Thanks guys!! Need to say i am not a really pro body sheet metal guy. Have watched some different repairs and that's about it. I've never done roof rust. only patched a crew cab side corner once, and then helped with a set of floor pans. This is another reason i am posting so many photos. Guys it's possible just give it a try. It's already bad your could make it worse or make it better. Give it a try hope somebody is inspired to just go after it!
I just painted to prevent surface rust yesterday, and then welded up a lot of the bottom. Then ran outta welding gas...

When and if you use it... get it smooth before it cures. Hard sanding but, I do like for those smaller area's with the metal content in just seems to work better Nothing wrong with evercoat... I use that too and the USB
I've had enough and I'm not alone
